If there weren't so many thieves out there, it would not be necessary.

You walk into their place of business. You pick up can carry around "stuff" they own. Before you walk out with it, it is their right to make sure you paid for it. Don't like it, shop Amazon.

This only happens at certain Home Depots in my area and those certain areas are usually inner city.

That wad of cash you just blew is larger because of theft.

According to the article, part of the issue is the self checkout and people not scanning some goods. Usually the self checkouts are in one area, instead of checking receipts at the door, just have the attendant stand in the self checkout area and observe the customers as they scan. Certainly no privacy issue there.

This is why I don't belong to any of those membership warehouse stores. Walmart has started it now and I just walk on by and so far they haven't bothered me. The things in my bags are mine and I paid for them. I don't feel like I should have to let them paw through my belongings, especially when we all know perfectly well that they don't match up items with receipts and they don't know how much things should cost. They barely glance at the receipt. I suspect that duping them would take no effort at all.

I walk right past them at Walmart.

Don't even look at them

Kind of hard to do at Costco though.

Now if the perp is known to have an "illegal" substance on them...fire up the chopper and mobilize the SWAT team!
And assassinate the perp's dog.

Unless you signed an agreement (Sams, Costco) all they can do if you refuse to abide by their policies is ask you to leave.
