"Around 1.4 million Floridians were estimated to be eligible to regain voting rights under the amendment, which went into effect in January. But Republican legislators in the state argued that the law needed to be clarified, introducing measures that limited how many people would be able to immediately register to vote."

Waldo, get back to us when...say....over one million of those 1.4 can walk in and register. Obviously the GOP has some good reason to hold them back until....say....maybe the fall of 2020?

I don’t believe in a democracy but I do believe in a republic.

Say what you will about the current administration, but they have taught us a valuable lesson that we needed. We have learned that the foundation of our country was not nearly as clever as we liked to think, prior to 2016. The Land of the Free has weaknesses that were open to be exploited by the vandals who occupy the government now. When we throw them off, we should hope that their kind will never again be allowed to hijack the nation.

Florida Politics? No, we are talking Florida environment. The first post link DOES go to one part of politics - that one being that DeSantis threw the will of the voters into the trash.

It's only been for the last 20 years that a yearly red tide has occurred. The one last year was, by many measures, the worst in recorded history. The policies of the GOP in Florida state that it is all "natural" - even the billions of gallons of poo released in the water is "natural".

The People of the state of Florida voted a decade (and more) ago for big spending to clean things up. Rick Scott reversed ALL of it and he and the current lackey refuse to even regular CESSPOOLS. That's right, in Florida (water world) you can just have a large round hole in the back yard that your toilets empty into....which, of course, gets carried away by the rain and groundwater.

In any case, it's sad to see DeSantis and his voting rights snuffing.....being as Rick Scott was already considered the worst ever when it came to that and now DeSantis is actually beating his record.
"Polls say Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is one of the most popular Florida politicians" says the Miami Herald, & his approval #'s are rising.

"DeSantis, the Green Governor" is the title of the article below

"DeSantis is the most prominant advocate for environmental restoration" states the Miami Herald

"DeSantis earmarked $1.4 Billion to Lake Okechobee restoration"

https://www.miamiherald.com/news/loc...230104349.html

Ron DeSantis is an environmental ROCK STAR is basically what the left-leaning Miami Herald is saying in this article, and I could link to many more of their articles praising our GREEN Governor.

Some Floridians are just sore losers when their candidate lays an egg, and blows a big election....like a Governor's race. So, they attack the winner with misinformation. Then, when you proove them wrong, they change the topic. They cannot admit to themselves that they lost...again!

Funny how several of the detractors of Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis in this thread are Florida residents, or visit Florida annually as snow birds. They could live, or vacation anywhere, and yet they choose Florida.

Unortunately, these Northern transplants are bringing their failed policies down to Florida with them, and are trying to repeat the same mistakes they made in Snowville here in the Sunshine State.

Repeating the same mistakes over and over again, while expecting different results....isn't that the definition of insanity?

Why not help our "Green Governor" & President Trump by telling Nancy Pelosi to quit sitting on the $1.4B Trump pledged to FLA in matching funds to improve Lake Okechobee.

The Republicans have emerged as the real "Green" party, and the Democrats have become the obstructionists to cleaning up Florida's waterways. A complete role reversal has taken place. The Republicans now OWN environmentalism in Florida!

Do you need me to start roling out links from the Orlando Sun Sentinel too, praising our new "Green Republican Governor"? That left-leaning newspaper loves him more than the Miami Herald!

Florida's Dems (that came from Libville) keep crying over lost elections, & spreading misinformation, while at the same time enjoying all that Florida has to offer. If Florida's so bad, why dont they leave?

They knew Florida was a Conservative State when they came here. Florida has not elected a Democrat Governor in 20+ years. That's a long losing streak for Dems, and I can't see that changing anytime soon, with, or without, Felons votes. There's not enough Felons to make a difference, and 40% of them are Republicans, and many will leave the State and vote elsewhere.

Did the same thing with medical marijuana, it’s a cartel. Medical marijuana prices are some of the highest in the country, retirees and disabled that should have access cannot afford it, my Florida congress always finds a way around the will of the people.

Regardless of how some feel in other states restoring voting in Florida passed with a big majority in a purple to red state that went for Trump. This issue actually crossed party lines here and apparently that does not matter to Desantis or our congress.

Why even have a vote in Florida if it won’t count in the end.

This is so typical.....when no one is looking the Republican leadership does the complete opposite of the Will of the People. Why even have Ballot Measures if they are just pretend?

Meanwhile, Desantis also continued doing little or nothing about the horrible pollution and Red Tide - and now, just as the season starts, there are major outbreaks of the deadly algae all along the West Coast.

It would be really nice for Florida to actually do what people voted for (they voted long ago for money to fix the Everglades which would help the Red Tide, etc.).
Red tide occurs naturally.....what does a governor do to change nature.?At least give him credit for stopping hurricanes. No major storms this year.Good job Governor Desantis

  1. Minimized the flow of nutrient rich water from Lake Okechobee into the canals which drain out and into the Gulf and Atlantic.
  2. Imposed septic tank inspection laws
  3. Provided more funding to the the Florida EPA and FWC to research its causes and how to minimize its affects.
  4. Fired the entire Florida Water Management Distric Board of Directors in his 1st week in office and replaces them with more qualitifed people.
  5. Required cities and counties to monitor and control, and treat runoff waters
  6. Beat a Democrat in the election for Governor who wouldn't have been 1/2 as effective on the environment.
  7. Named judges who will be tough on the Sugar industry here.
  8. Took 0$ from the Sugar industry (biggest polluters of Florida's waterways) while the Dem candidate DID!

...just to name a few things our GREEN Republican Governor has done. The Republican party now OWNS the environmental issue here in Florida. Even the left leaning media here are applauding our Conservative Governor! I suggest reading all about it in the Miami and Orlando newspapers....article after article after article praising our Conservative Governor.

We just keep winning over, and over again. The Dem party is in total disarray on every level, while the Republicans keep appointing Conservative Judges, and keep cleaning up the environmental messes Obama left behind. Obama wouldn't approve the money for Lake Okechobee either, and now Pelosi's repeating that same mistake while the Republicans have taken control.

The OP knows very well that Florida's Ron DeSantis has approved Millions of Dollars in Red Tide Research, and Billions to rebuild the Lake Okechobee water retention walls so more water could be held in the lake, as opposed to releasing it into canals where it could later cause harm. President Trump also sought Billions of Dollars for this water retention improvement, but thus far Nancy Pelosi's congress has blocked the bill from being passed. The Democrats are playing politics with Florida's environment.

Florida's Governor DeSantis has been applauded by both the Miami Herald and the Orlando Sun Sentinel for his environmental accomplishments thus far. So, we have TWO left leaning newspapers applauding their State's Conservative Governor.

I rate the OP's comments as: MOSTLY FALSE! He's trying to take advantage of Americans who might not be familiar with Florida politics. Florida's Red Tide this year is much less severe than last year, and tourism has been up up up since the Great Recession eased. Red Tide has not made a dent in Florida's economy, or tourism growth. 2019 will be yet another record breaking tourist season, and Republican Governor Ron Desantis will continue to win praise from both sides of the aisles for his environmental achievements.
Which is essentially a Poll Tax on these ex felons.
There was no provision in the Amendment that they had to pay anything back.
DeSantis barely won the Governorship over Democrat Gillum so why help out a disenfranchised set of potential voters that probably won't vote for him in the future?
