Trump says he wants witnesses and documents introduced in the Senate trial.

"Trump has previously made comments about allowing high-ranking officials to testify or answer questions but has not taken any steps to make that happen."

So if the President wants witnesses to exonerate him of any wrongdoing, then why is McConnell making the unilateral decision to block them from testifying as well as introducing any documents that might exonerate Trump? I just don't get it.

Why not accept the same deal Republicans got in the house? Democrats can call whatever witnesses they want, but McConnell can veto them.

McConnell will not call them because those involved with Trump will tell the truth. Trump is too dense to get that it would not help support his BS.

Didn't we hear enough from the "witnesses" that the dems called in the House? You know the ones that had their feelings hurt. The ones that heard a rumor that someone said something to someone that could be perceived as quid pro quo but that it was all hear say or the ones that claimed to be scholars of such things but were actually supporters of the Democrat party with a record of being against Trump?

I think we have heard enough of this partisan nonsense and Pelosi knows it is a sham and that is why she is not completing the impeachment process.

It is all a big game of politics and the American People are tired of it and I think it is going to backfire on the Dems come election day.

Weren't Repubs and Fox News moaning endlessly about not being able to call witnesses in the House? Here's their chance, show us what you got.

So you’d have no problems with republicans calling their own witnesses and deciding which ones to allow democrats?

The Democrats already called their witnesses in the House hearings. If the Repubs can find enough people willing to commit perjury to shield Two Scoops Donny, go nuts. Show us what a party of "law and order" you are.

Exactly. I've read analysis of the phone call and listened to it and the critical thing that will save or condemn Trump is "Intent". Did Trump intend to blackmail Zelensky or was he genuinely concerned about corruption and wanted to stop Biden from engaging in corruption with Ukraine? What hurts Trump's case is Sondland testifying that Trump didn't give a damn about corruption in Ukraine. Trump only cared about the "big stuff" the stuff that would help him personally.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/...stigation.html

I am glad the Democrats are not calling for Sondland to re-testify at the senate because this is very damning for Trump. If Bolton, Mulveney and Bolton back Trump's tweets that the call was "perfect" then I think we can look forward to Trump being re-elected after being exonerated by these three witnesses. That's why I don't get why McConnell won't let them testify.

Can't we assume that McConnell and Trump have grilled these three men privately and asked them, "What will you say if you are called to testify?"

If they say, "We will back you to the hilt, Mr President" then it would benefit Trump's case tremendously by allowing them to testify and repair the damage Trump has suffered in the eyes of the public by McConnell refusing to allow them to appear.

It would be up to Ciaramella and Biden to decide whether or not to perjure themselves.
