You suppose the US will comply with the will of their people?

We should be gone regardless of any vote, but its unlikely ego maniac/bully Trump would ever allow such a perceived defeat on his record.
I was trying to find a right wing "libertarian" with consistent standards on these never ending wars. Kudos to you for being said person.

I am sure the Sunnis will do anything in their power to keep US troops in Iraq, or else they will be in big trouble for having supported US. If we leave, and surrender Iraq to Iran, the pro-US Sunnis would probably have to consider leaving Iraq and immigrate to the US. That would include a good chunk of the Iraqi army leadership.

Trump trying to threaten Iraq with sanctions etc is only making things worse.

When we went back in in 2014 to fight ISIS, we agreed we would leave when ISIS was defeated. According to Trump, that is a mission accomplished. Forget about being kicked out, we should keep our word and withdraw.

Yep, I called it, I said the US will do all it can to punish Iraq if it kicked troops out, Trump has now stated sanctions are on the table.

The US hates democracy and sovereignty.

Iraqi parliament votes to remove US military from their country

I wish we had never started that illegal war in the first place, yet here we are.

Nonetheless, this is a perfect example of how INEPT Trump is as Commander In Chief:

General Qassem Soleimani spent the better part of the last two decades scheming and wheedling his way at getting the USA influence out of Iraq. That was his mission, his Number One goal.

Our goal? To leave with a stable, intact and friendly nation behind, free of extremists influences.

With one word from Trump, Soleimani accomplished his mission, driving us out and destroying the delicate balance of power between the Sunni's and Shias in that worthless hellhole of a place ... and as a bonus in the minds of his own people he is now a martyr and a saint.

Now the Shias (backed by Iran) will dominate Iraq, the nation will essentially become an Iranian ally which WE bought and paid for ($6,300 + per US citizen). They will screw over the Sunni minority, and as a result something like ISIS will probably arise again in defensive response. Seventeen years of American blood and treasure totally wasted.

I agree but disagree on a few points,

I do not think the US had any real goal other than "we want our guy in charge". Instability actually favored the US to continue to have a large degree of influence.

I doubt ISIS is going to gain strength, Iranian backed groups have been rather vicious and successful at irradicating ISIS.

Promised to leave, kicked out, it's all irrelevant now.

The problem is that ISIS will re-emerge because of the murder regardless of USA and NATO troops in the area. In fact, the assassination of the General is enough to re-energize and re-recruit ISIS youth. Remember all those educational videos we saw of youth being indoctrinated to ISIS ideology? Where did they go?

NATO was in the area to train local soldiers. There was never any guarantee that those soldiers could not be radicalized - especially if something extreme happened.

Was Trump thinking that he could stir up a little trouble in the Middle East to distract from National issues? It's evident that he has no game plan beyond extreme actions without thought for consequence.

Man breaks into your house to free you. Stays there while telling you how to live in it, meanwhile you’ve lost some family members.Sure the landlord was an prick but things were stable. Turns out he was there because he wanted to take your booze.

Now he is starting s* with your neighbor so you decide it’s time for him to go. But he expects you to pay for all his expenses while squatting in your home after destroying it...

Trump, with this assassination, has just lost two wars. We lost the war in Iraq as of now. We spent lives, treasure, and 16 years of time, to eliminate Saddam and make Iraq our Ally and circuit breaker in the Middle East. All that was lost yesterday when Iraq voted to have us leave Iraq. They will never coordinate with us again. Thanks Trump. And now we will lose to Iran. Sure, we may bomb the crap out of them, but their way of warfare is asymmetrical, we will die a death of a thousand cuts for the foreseeable future. Thanks Trump.
