If a 52-34 majority think Trump is reckless, then they also think he's not fit for office. Bad news for Trump's reelection chances.

Wag the Dog: "By 47%-39%, those surveyed said Trump ordered the killing of Soleimani in an attempt to divert the focus from his impeachment." Given the poor reception by senators at the Iran briefing -- where evidence that Soleimani was an immenent threat was lacking -- the "wag the dog" theory moves from silly conspiracy theory to a plausible explanation.

14 US Embassy attacks in foreign lands (NOT IN AMERICA ON AMERICAN SOIL) in last 10 years alone?! You don't go to war over that (get more embassy security!)...9/11 and Pearl Harbor...absolutely!

There is an old saying that the devil you know is preferred over the one you don't know. We apparently had this guy pegged and knew what he was doing and where he was and who he had control over. He may have been a bad actor and worthy of being taken out one way or another but now we are more in the dark than before. Somebody else will be calling the shots and they will be more careful and keep a lower profile. In that sense, we are less safe. We are also less safe if this mess escalates beyond this tit-for-tat stuff we have seen so far.

I agree that this was simply an election year stunt and Trump hasn't made a compelling case otherwise. We attacked and killed 25 militia, wounding Iraqi Soldiers, and police. Iraqis get upset and that prompts an orchestrated protest at the Baghdad US embassy (that was fully expecting it) and protesters damage entrance and reception buildings before we use tear gas and flares to drive them away...a great media event. Against advice, Trump orders that we kill off the top Iranian general in retaliation (Although we have never gone to war over any of the 24 other global embassy attacks since 2000) and we send 3000 troops to the middle east with a lot more media coverage. Iran carefully tosses a few missiles into Iraqi bases housing US troops avoiding any US casualties and a few small rockets into the Green Zone: a subdued response. Trump declares victory and imposes new sanctions on Iran. Unfortunately for him, the American people know what he is up to and holds him responsible.

Hmm. Tell that to the families of the military personnel that are now in the graveyard or those that have had their limbs blown off by the actions of this terrorist.

You might want to consider a remedial reading course.
On congressional war approval. "...the survey found a receptive landscape for Congress to act. A double-digit majority, 53%-33%, endorsed congressional action that would limit Trump's ability to order military strikes or declare war without legislative approval. Supporters included 78% of Democrats, 26% of Republicans and 54% of independents. "
