“I wonder if any of the same journalists praising Romney to the heavens right now realize that the way they smeared him in 2012 is partly what enabled the rise of Trump.
A swath of the GOP watched a guy run, get smeared, and lose. And they concluded “punching back” was necessary.”
Nah, the President using the power of his office to get dirt on his political opponents is not a "joke". It's real, he did it, everyone knows he did it. A majority thought it wasn't grounds for removal from office. The same way the majority thought that lying about sex wasn't grounds for removal either.
It wasn't a "hoax", it wasn't fake. It happened, and everyone knows it did.
Nice try at rewriting history.
The President suspected that there were dirty dealings going on, and attempted to get to the bottom of it. He never withheld aid, he never threatened to withhold aid, end of story. What the "majority" thought doesn't matter at all. As for being "real", it was never proven, as second hand, he said-she said is not proof.
And Clinton didn't lie about sex, he lied UNDER OATH. Which is a crime, for which he was punished.
Here's the thing --- stories dominating the impeachment story -- Mitt Romney -- and of course Trump's base is trashing Romney now (these same people were telling us a few years back how he should be President of the USA and now they are trashing him --- yeah we want those people running a country).
Trashing the character of Romney does nothing to promote the Republican integrity agenda. In fact -- it highlights the willingness to stoop to anything for power.
Either Romney is some crack pot that the Republicans tried to get into the Presidency or he's some kind of man with great integrity that they are insisting to trash now.

I said "one election since 1988". That one is 2004. When the guy had 9/11 as a crutch, back when it was practically consider treason by the right to criticize the President. Of course that suddenly all changed on January 20, 2009. Then we had to be subject to stupid "WATER THE TREE OF LIBERTY WITH THE BLOOD OF TYRANTS" and "DEMOCRACY IS A WOLF AND A SHEEP ARGUING WHAT TO HAVE FOR DINNER" and other bull****.
The EC means the candidates largely focus on a handful of states. It's STILL winner take all, just in 48 states. Which means literally 48 people could hand someone nearly 100% of the EC map even if the actual vote was a fraction of a fraction of a fraction higher for one candidate. One person in each state and it goes from a 50-50 election to a 99.99999 to .000001 election in the most massive landslide of all time.
Again, it also means my vote here in Texas has no influence on any Presidential Election.
Look at 1984. With the EC it looks like 97% of the country said "**** Walter Mondale". He got 40% of the vote. It's ridiculous.
Welcome to life in a republic. I lived for many years where my vote in California had no influence. But far better to have that, than have the citizens of 4 large cities decide the President of the entire country. The founders knew what they were doing with the electoral college.
Trump did not commit any act rising to the standard of impeachment. The Bidens acted more improperly than Trump did. Joe Biden had an impressive 4th place finish in Iowa.
Hey, it's only 4 days after the election - do we have a vote count yet?
This has been one crazy week in politics.
