Poem from an unknown Ga Democrat read into session of 1949 Congress:

Father, must I go to work?
No my lucky son
We’re living now on easy street
On dough from Washington

We’ve left it up to Uncle Sam
So don’t get exercised
Nobody has to give a damn
We’ve all been subsidized

But if Sam treats us all so well
And feeds us milk and honey
Please, daddy, please tell me what the hell
He’s going to use for money

Don’t worry, bub, there’s not a hitch
In this here noble plan
He simply soaks the filthy rich
And helps the common man

But, father, won’t there come a time
When they run out of cash
And we have left them not a dime
When things go to smash?

My faith is shrinking in you, son
You nosy little brat
You do too damn much thinking,
To be a Democrat

Atwater was a genius. Get the white working class to buy the "welfare queen" narrative. Transfer their racial animosity into this format, and bam, you have a voting block of angry white people to vote against their own economic interests for decades.

What else would possess someone to dredge this up in 2020?

How does producing a welfare class that is entirely dependent on the rest of society serve as a benefit to the working class The only people this has benefited are democrat politicians.

How does reinforcing a system where 1% of the people own 40% of the wealth while at the same time focusing all your hatred on the bottom 50% who own 1.6% of it, benefit the working class?

Anyone with any common sense sees it as completely ass backwards, but .....you are probably a Limbaugh fan.

Here's what you fail to realize:

All the welfare (food stamps, Medicaid, public housing, etc) that bothers you so much is designed to allow "American" corporations to pay their employees peanuts. It pads their bottom lines when we taxpayers pick up the tabs for their people's housing, medical and groceries.

They SHOULD be able to make profit by relying on the markets rather than taxpayer handouts.

Just one example:

And it keeps "the working poor" in their place, right?

There's no welfare BUT corporate welfare.

Nice deflection. How does redistribution of wealth help society?

I'm assuming this was in reaction to Truman's Fair Deal. He tried for universal healthcare too.
