I met a microbiologist last week who said the best way to avoid contagious diseases is to wash your hands with soap and water. She also noted that anti-bacterial lotions and gels that have alcohol as an ingredient will cause small splits in your skin where the germs can penetrate. And, we both agreed that gardening without gloves will boost your immune system.

Too bad the ground is a bit tough to dig into during the flu season. Besides, gardening without gloves will definitely cause cuts and abrasions; more so than alcohol based anti-bacterial lotions.
