Fact is we are in the second wave of cases.. the first was from Wuhan which was handled.. the second got out of hand because Italy had low numbers and the people returning from Italy were bringing it back to the United States.. It took a while for these people to get the symptoms and they were mostly coming from Italy. It spread very quickly and now we have many cases in each state. Europe is now the epicenter of the virus. That is why Trump closed all travel from Italy other than those who are American citizens.. Plus many carry the virus , have a huge virus load and feel no symptoms.. this is why it is growing by leaps and bounds.. All this information was unknown when Trump made his statements.
You don’t understand the exponential nature of a disease outbreak in people with no immunity. It’s not linear like a cake rising in an oven, it’s an explosion that takes everyone by surprise. Look at the graphs showing the rise in numbers of infected — they are textbook exponential.
That is because testing is ramping up. My point is there is a high likelihood we have had very high numbers of carriers here for a long time now, certainly longer than 2 weeks, which is the amount of time it would take for them to show symptoms.
No, you should try to be better informed. Nobody is saying, "everyone is going to die because of this virus." All we are saying is more people will die because the President has denied the crisis up until the past couple days. This country should have been preparing in January when it was apparent the Corona virus would spread rapidly. This is what Trump has actually said over the past two months:

On Feb. 26, at a White House news conference, commenting on the country’s first reported cases: “We’re going to be pretty soon at only five people. And we could be at just one or two people over the next short period of time. So we’ve had very good luck.”

The US is no worse then other countries. What Trump says has no effect on Italy and look at them.
This is new territory for all of us all over the world. Try to look outside the scope of the US and see what is going on in the world.

I can tell you one thing for sure, the hospital systems in my region are a lot less dismissive than you are about the situation. They are anticipating mass catastrophe and being overwhelmed quickly.
