Upon hearing the governors order last night, many KY and OH residents thought he meant what he said.."you can only be out on the roads if you are going to the grocery store, the pharmacy, or to care for someone else in need", however, today, we are finding out the definition of 'essential' varies greatly!!
ALL the 'dollar stores' are considered essential'
Liquor stores are considered essential...(really??)
dept stores are considered essential (clothing)
Home improvement stores are considered essential
Restaurants are STILL permitted to do carry out and drive thru
Basically whats 'non-essential' are Florists, movie theaters, gyms, and bookstores!!
If they think they are containing the spread by closing those few places, they better think again!
And no one is FORCING these places to stay open, I saw one guy in OH that owns a handful of liquor stores, says he will close all his locations voluntarily, so at least some people have good sense.

Dunkin Donuts Drive Thru is open for business. Likely it will be staffed by the salaried manager as hourly worker hours have been cut.
Laundromats and Cleaners are also open.
Construction workers are on the job.
Public transportation is running.
Banks are open.
Food pantries are open.
On the other hand, the parking lot at my local metra station has two cars in the lot, whereas there is capacity for serious hundreds of cars.
They are not taking this seriously at all!
Id like to know how people are expected to stay 6ft apart on public transportation?
Im very surprised banks are still open, normally in situations like this, they are the first to close, mainly to prevent runs on the banks, I bet they are closed next week though, once LOTS more people start showing symptoms. Im going to my bank friday, after my paycheck is deposited and withdrawing everything except $5.

The bank my daughter works at closed their lobby last week and are only doing drive through now. And my son, who works in food manufacturing, has been issued a permit to be out here in Illinois while we're under a stay at home order. I'm not sure how draconian Illinois is being with this order, but I haven't seen much traffic all day, so maybe people are heeding the warning. I sure hope so.
Withdrawing all your money is not smart. Unless you have over $250,000 in any one account it's safer in the bank.
But I agree with you, many of these things are non-essential and should definitely be shut down.

Coffee shops, spas and tanning salons, libraries, barbershops, hair and nail salons, skating rinks (those that are left), bowling alleys, bars and nightclubs, breweries and wineries, garden nurseries comedy clubs, casinos are closed as well.
Liquor stores should be allowed to stay open ONLY if they are delivery or pick-up. As far as department stores I thought they had closed voluntarily? I wonder if those stores like DSW, which only sell shoes, are allowed open.
Dollar stores I understand, as they sell food and water, toiletries, feminine hygiene products, paper towels and toilet paper, cleaning supplies, batteries. It's not just candy and snacks either but canned goods and some refrigerated foods. With all the job losses, a lot more people will be shopping dollar stores.
I would think dollar stores would be essential for sure. That's actually the only store we have in our area. You have to drive to another town to get to a small grocery store.
