It’s a very tepid “lockdown” and will do very little. Why do you need to build a house right now? Why is the marijuana store essential? Why home goods? It should just be hospitals, pharmacies, pure food stores (not like Walmart or target) and gas stations.

In a lot of rural areas Walmart or the local gas station might be the only thing around for miles. But I agree with you that this lockdown is too sporadic and lacking in enforcement to do much good.

Italy is showing that mortuaries and cemeteries are very essential.

Here in NY - the banks want you to make an appt to see someone inside otherwise you are to use the ATM. My parents don't have an ATM card as a lot of other elderly who always preferred to do their transactions in a bank.

A local bakery wasn't allowed to stay open because they didn't bake bread - just pastries and cakes - but I saw on FB that they are now making bread and rolls so they could stay op - and yet - the cookie factory down the way is open as is the chocolate factory I used to work for. That made me wonder what the state actually thought essentials were. Obviously I see things differently.

People aren't exactly packing themselves onto trains and buses right now. Here in the Chicago area CTA ridership is down 75%. I don't have a figure for the commuter trains to/from the suburbs but I've seen pics and video footage of rush hour trains usually packed to standing-room-only have maybe 5 riders per car.

Alcoholics need alcohol to avoid potentially lethal withdrawal symptoms. What if your plumbing breaks - no hardware stores? Walmart has most items as well as food. It is the one store that absolutely needs to be open. America's general store.
