Because with the left in control, America traded it's domestic manufacturing base for green energy scams and cheap sex toys from China. Either AOC knows what she is talking about (of course she doesn't), or America did a very silly thing and is very lucky to have Trump in the white house to fix this.
Actually our elected reps preferred their special interests over we the people and sold us out. They made sure that it would be more profitable to offshore manufacturing than keep it in the states.
Eh, expression of the innate human desire to want more for less. Would get there without special interests too.
So the US makes no drugs, no ventilators, no masks/gowns
Bring back manufacturing to America. Our Americans need and would appreciate the jobs, and we will be self-sufficient, in war and at all other times.
This is a result of the liberal Democrats' unfair trade agreements that have sent all of our manufacturing capacity abroad. Including manufacturing of medical supplies. If China needs these supplies of course they're going to help their own people first before exporting any.
But China just exported 1200 ventilators to California...
Is this the first national crisis where 3D printing is having a significant impact? That technology can help return manufacturing to this country and make it local.
Thread fail. not only do we make masks etc, we also make ventilators.
Im surprised so many us companies make masks to be honest, I figured all of it would be overseas. The ventilators were no surprise though, I listed one, but given that they can be more complex, and people want to be able to sue if something goes wrong I wasnt surprised to see them made here.

Yes I think so. But its not a huge impact as not enough people have them. But we are seeing that change, and its interesting to think that as the printers improve we will see more home manufacturing. I've got a resin one, and it makes incredible things with fairly high precision.
Nothing is made.
What if there is a war or a global emergency?
That's just silly. I know one small company that manufactures, in South Florida of all places, and they have not shut down because they are essential to the biomedical field. If little me knows one small manufacturing company, then I am pretty sure there are many others.
Labor-intensive work went to the cheapest labor market - mostly China, in the last few decades. Both US main political parties were onboard with that, & the manufacturers lobbied hard to get that done.
But as manufacturing moved offshore & also moved upscale - consumer electronics, domestic electrical items, bicycles, motorcycles, cars, trucks, pianos - the nuts & bolts knowledge also went with the equipment & supply chains, & it's very difficult to reconstitute that. There's plenty of blame to spread around - the real question is What to do about the near-future & medium future about manufacturing in the US.
