So the US makes no drugs, no ventilators, no masks/gowns
Bring back manufacturing to America. Our Americans need and would appreciate the jobs, and we will be self-sufficient, in war and at all other times.
Get rid of the regulatory state and it will happen. Taxes arent the way.
This is a result of the liberal Democrats' unfair trade agreements that have sent all of our manufacturing capacity abroad. Including manufacturing of medical supplies. If China needs these supplies of course they're going to help their own people first before exporting any.
Stop blaming China for the fact the US government was headed by a man that routinely dismissed the severity of the crisis while the pandemic was sweeping westward.
People preferred their higher standard of living and cheap products rather than a self sustaining economy where your food budget took up 40% of your paycheck with little left over for luxuries.
Not at all.
The US gov refused to take medical care seriously like they do with defense. The US would not ever dare have its tanks, F-22, etc, outsourced wholly, nor the numerous critical components for these things, yet with healthcare, has zero care, treats such threats as second rate compared to say a nuclear attack, or needing 5,000 tanks sitting in storage.
So the US makes no drugs, no ventilators, no masks/gowns
Nothing is made.
What if there is a war or a global emergency?
I have been highly distressed by the fact that we were moving everything to India and China and the USA was increasingly not making stuff anymore. I was thinking exactly the same thing. "What if you have a war and you don't know how to make anything??"
Voted for Obama because he said he'd do something about it and McCain didn't. Obama didn't do squat, so voted for Ron Paul next. Couldn't stand Donald Trump, the very personification of the high school bully, but with power, so I voted for Gary Johnson. Still not crazy about Donald Trump, but at least we have a guy who is actually doing something to get the USA back into the business of making stuff. He at least got the process started, but when this virus hit us, we still were dependent on China for supply chain and/or manufacturing of just about every medical supply there is. Consider the fact that the last US plant that manufactured penicillin shut down in 2004. We've been selling our souls to China for decades now.
Both parties sold us up the river and now everyone is addicted to cheap crap. None of the elected idiots or the lobbyists they serve give a hang about the rest of us. And we're too stupidly looking at a tiny screen to notice.
We are not prepared for war. The corporations have shipped everything óseas to get richer, and not to pay you, and now when there is a problem we are like well ?! God forbid if We speak evil of our corporations!
Corporations know that if they make their stuff here in the U.S., they will have to pay workers more, and will have to increase the prices of their stuff, since they don't have a money tree out back as you seem to think they do.
And they know that if they charge more for their stuff, nobody will buy it. The vast majority of people will buy at the lower price other companies charge, without regard for where it's made. So the corporation will have to make it in China too, or die.
Did somebody call someone "evil" for contracting overseas?
Do you now realize who exactly is committing that "evil"?
(Hint: Look in a mirror.)
