oh, the virus is definitely still out there. By the way, on worldometers Texas had just over 2K new cases yesterday. What matters is WHY - yes?
By the way, it's NOT "bickering about everything" when one expects people - not you, mind you - to understand some basics. Like "if you test a higher #, you'll get a higher # of positives". Like, "deaths on May 1st aren't because TX opened April 30"
btw, the big increase in Texas is Potter County (600 new cases, now 2K total) and Randall County (+116, 600 total).
The data showed that as of Wednesday, 1,927 Connecticut nursing home patients died with coronavirus or whose death is suspected to be associated with the illness. Another 276 residents of assisted living facilities have died after falling ill with COVID-19, the data shows. Together, the deaths represent roughly 70 percent of the 3,125 COVID-19-related fatalities reported statewide as of Wednesday.
residents of nursing homes have accounted for a staggering proportion of Covid-19 deaths in the US, according to incomplete data gathered by healthcare researcher
Privately compiled data shows such deaths now account for more than half of all fatalities in 14 states, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. Only 33 states report nursing home-related deaths.
The point here is not that we should speed up Granny’s death, but that policy makers could protect her and her friends far better by focusing on nursing home safety and not applying a sledge hammer to the entire economy.
May 13, Texas had 1,636 new cases, a record high.
May 15, Texas has 2,012 new cases, smashing the record set just 48 hours prior.
This surge of new cases will result in a surge of new deaths in about 10 to 14 days.
The rush to reopen is and will take its toll in human suffering and death, there is no denying that.
The right wing is politicizing the pandemic, trying to make it into right vs. left. It isn't political, it's reason and science versus ignorance and uninformed populism.

My thing is this. It's either remain closed and destroy the economy, or just reopen, people die and the economy still gets wrecked. Thier has to be a balanced approach to reopening so that those that want to do total lockdown on the left can shut up, and be happy, while on the right tehy can enjoy the economy shut up and be happy.
It's already left vs right and has been so since the Pandemic started. This right or left thing is nothing new. 20 years ago during 9/11 the left was pro liberty agaisnt the patriot act, and the right was pro security and safety and wanted the patriot act. 20 years later the paradigm has shifted. The left is now about safety and security while the right is bout liberty and freedom. I'm no fan of Cuomo up here in NYC, but I have to respect the man like how I have to respect Trump. Their needs to be a smart approach to reopening, and smart approach to ease lockdown. Neither the hardcore left or hardcore right do not want smart approach to ease lockdown or to reopen.
I'm a Lefty and my issue is this. If those that support the lockdown in its entirity. Are you willing to support high taxes after this is over, or you guys just going to end up moving to some red state after this pandemic is over and the blue states become economically messed up with high covid taxes like NY and CA?

350 deaths, given the population size of Texas, is hardly noteworthy.
The unknown is if these are just cases that were out there all along or if this is a new surge. Testing has become available nationwide now, three months after the outbreak. So testing is just reflecting the level of infection that was already prevalent. Or is it? Time will tell. One thing sure is that the virus is still around, there seems to be minimal seasonal effects, and very few people have immunity. Add it up and the cases and deaths will add up. What the level of tolerance is for this remains to be seen. The economy is on life support until the virus is contained.
Texas had 50 deaths yesterday, down from a peak of 59 a few weeks ago
NY had 148 deaths yesterday, with a peak of over 1000.
At its worst, Texas is seeing a tiny fraction of the deaths that NY is seeing now that it is "improving". And Texas has a much higher population than NY (and is gaining rather than losing).
Texas has the 11th lowest death rate in the entire nation, in spite of its huge population and major metro areas.
