My wife is Irish and it is disgusting what the English did to her people. Heck her Father and brother were detained by the Police in Northern Ireland. She had an uncle that was a political prisoner. A bit further back people accused of petty crimes were stuffed on ships and sent to Australia.
Back in the day right here in America there used to be signs that read "No Blacks and No Irish". Her people were discriminated against.
She still gets crap from people now and again that look down on her because she is Irish. More than once she has been asked in a joking manner "oh you are Irish you must like to drink". She doesn't. Her new response to that is that is racist, would you ask a black person if they like fried chicken?
It just goes to show that there are ignorant people everywhere.
This is the kind of savage barbarian behavior that the leftists in the U.S. have shown the world. They have taken one incident where the cops were wrong and will be duly punished and turned it into a world-wide reason to beat anyone for any reason they see fit. There were entire African empires involved in the slave trade, enslaving blacks from other areas, and then selling them to slavers. Is anyone going to place any blame on the Africans who sold the slaves?

And some Irish were tricked into slavery and brought over to Canada with the promise of good jobs, safe place to live, etc. Technically, I guess you'd call them indentured servants rather than slaves but similar concept.
They were forced to pay the owner back for the transportation to Canada, work 18-20 hours a day for pennies a week, live on the property in bunk houses with other families and buy all of their supplies from the property store. In other words, they never made enough to get themselves out of it.
Many got out the same way slaves did - friendly neighbors who didn't approve of this concept and helped them escape to other parts of Canada or the US.
Further, as late as after WWll, any time you saw a help wanted sign in a window in the Northeast, the letters INNA we printed under it - Irish Need Not Apply. They were thought to be either witches or thieves.
That's one of the reasons there are so many Irish names on the rosters of Northeast Fire Departments, Police Departments, Sanitation Departments - they couldn't get any other job than the most dangerous.

Many Irish were brought here as slaves to work in the tobacco fields of Virginia and Maryland. (over 179 years according to author Herbert L. Byrd, Jr.) The English rulers started out using the poor of England, then moved to the Irish. Yes, there were indentured servants, but there were also white slaves, who worked before and during the period of black slaves. They actually worked side by side in the fields. Never learned about this in school.

The irish had nothing to do with historical slavery. These African immigrants have never experienced slavery. It is quite shocking to see how irrational and ignorant people have become.
Hmmm. Yeah. And the thing is the Irish know a thing or two about oppression, subjugation and yes enslavement themselves. At the hands of the English.
They had their share of issues here. They were more heavily used as cannon fodder and musket bait in the Civil War than Blacks were by the Union.
And you're correct about the whole experience thing. It's all just history. That means it's long past. No living Black, White, Brown Yellow or Red person was alive and experienced any of the things that happened back elsewhen.
And Blacks were hardly the only ones who got beat up. The Chinese, Irish, Italians and the American Indians for sure took it on the chin.
And I have White forebears who did as well. Burned out, murdered, raped and treated as varmints because they were homesteaders. And the cattle kings, railroads, big mining types wanted their land, the water on it whatever.
Our history in the US is brutal, all around. But it is HISTORY. The people who could have been held accountable are all quite dead. And God has sorted them out.
