A Veto Proof Majority of Minneapolis City Council Members have just stated that they will disband the police.
If they will lose their jobs, shouldn't they just mass resign now.
#1 They can start looking to more reasonable communities for job openings before other liberal cities cut funds and have police layoffs or disband their entire police force as well. You want to be the first unemployed cops so you can find a job easier before competing against other laid off cops.
#2 Apparently giving the mob what they want will reign down an era of inner city peace and save lives.

Public Pensions have a clear policy where if they leave outside their pension system that they will be able to salvage some of their pension money and roll it over into an IRA or annuity.
Looks to me the city council is going to not honor any pension vesting. They did say disband through defunding. Pensions are part of funding.
Yeah, I think they should all drop their badges and guns wherever they are standing saddle up and sink spur. The city government is going to far to fast.

If You Leave Before Retirement If your public service ends after you are vested for a benefit but are under age 50, you may leave your contributions with PERA and qualify for a later retirement benefit, called a deferred pension. When you terminate PERA-covered employment and leave your contributions in the fund rather than take a refund, PERA calculates a pension amount based upon your years of service and average salary at termination. You can begin receiving a lifetime benefit any time after reaching age 50, but benefits must begin before age 70½. Even though you are no longer in public service, you are a month closer to the Rule of 90 for every month your contributions remain with PERA. You may apply for a refund immediately upon termination of PERAcovered employment, or you may leave the contributions in PERA and apply for a refund at any time before a deferred benefit is paid. When you collect a refund of employee contributions, you forfeit all future PERA benefits, such as a pension. (See Refunds and Repaying a Refund on page 4.)

Minneapolis is one of the better if not the best second-third tier US city, all things considered.
But their virtue signalling government, in voting to eliminate the Police department, is de facto asking for the National Guard to permanently police the city.
The current Minneapolis government is a national embarrassment.
The residents can't want the elimination of the Police Department. It'll be amazing if the City Council isn't group impeached or otherwise disbanded by a higher up.
I don't know. I wonder if the "new system" is just going to be the current one under a different banner. If not, I'm not sure what the police officers will think about going to work or risking their lives after today. Especially since this will ramp up the hate and violence towards them.
