Everyone keeps saying wear a mask, wash your hands, stay home, etc. Well I am. But sorry, I tend to look at the big picture, long term. What is that? Is this really a life it it never ends or a distopian future?
This is life as we know it for the foreseeable future. This is it until herd immunity takes hold or a vaccine comes along.

Read up on past plagues.

And I don't recall the President issuing any orders blocking anyone smarter and more precognizant from taking actions. Governors and mayors could have shut down earlier if they had wished. So you have one statement back in February by Fauci but you're ignoring the endless statements by Trump and his administration dismissing this as just the flu.

Trump issued no orders one way or the other in fact he actually praised states for violating the CDC guidelines. Total lack of leadership from the top and many of the red states followed his lead putting politics above the opinions of health experts even those in their own states.

The same people who feign outrage over bartenders and restaurant staff being allowed to have jobs and make a living are the same people who support tens and hundreds of thousands of people in the streets "protesting"....so there's just no way to take people like that seriously at all.

It's simply a case of the virus being present in hospitalized patients. The number of cases compared to testing, and number of deaths, show the true story - neither have spiked. Even with the misleading stats, the numbers are so small they can barely be considered a blip, given the size of Texas.

As for restaurants closing because their employees are testing positive, that is because tests are easier to get right now, so a restaurant owner can find out for sure if their employees have the virus. A few months ago, that wasn't an option.

I know the left so very desperately wants this virus to hit a second wave, but it's just not happening here in Texas.
You're wrong. My wife and I are both healthcare workers who live just north of Harris County, Texas, which is a viral hotspot. The ICU in her hospital is at 90% of capacity. Abbott and his ilk are so money hungry they will lie through their teeth trying to convince the US that reopening way too soon wasn't the cause of our explosion in COVID-19 cases. It's 100% his fault. All the officials warned us against opening too soon yet he did exactly that. And now that thousands upon thousands are catching the virus every day, he isn't even mandating mask use because of our all important civil liberties might be infringed If people have to go back to work, they won't bother getting tested because they logically believe it doesn't matter if they are positive. If they are told they don't have to wear masks they will not wear masks. If they congregate and don't wear masks, they will get sick and some of them will die. Dr. Fauci says we are still in the first wave. We have done nearly nothing to control it. And what's worse, Lina Hidalgo, county judge of Houston, attempted to mandate mask use because there were so many cases and Abbott went over her head saying it wasn't a problem! Thousands more got sick and hundreds more died. Greg Abbott might as well have killed these people directly. His orders caused their deaths

I could give you dozens of statements by Fauci. That's just an especially memorable one. He also called travel restrictions "irrelevant". And here's a doozy from March 9th.
“If you are a healthy young person, there is no reason if you want to go on a cruise ship, go on a cruise ship.”

Again, at the time of Trump's downplaying statements, his health advisers were downplaying it. Raise your hands if you had been under the impression that Trump had a strong medical background and deep knowledge about infectious diseases. Yet so many liberal second-guessers apparently think he should have known better than his top medical experts.

#1 isn't easy either - the economy changes just as it has already. But it is somewhat measured in that we all agree to protect the general population as long as possible hoping for various "cures".

There is no scenario where this will be over soon. *****************
So, make your choices. When I am living now (in MA) we are currently squashing it to almost zero. Please note this chart:

But those choices mean effectively sacrificing years of schooling ans socialization for young children, universities, and all religious cultural institutions. This is because the restrictions would have to be of indefinite length, effectively meaning forever. Any attempt to reopen, ever, will face these choices.

For a disease that kills or seriously sickens a minuscule percentage of its victims.

Yeah, but what do you know - you're just a front line worker seeing it 24/7?

Yep; that was exactly the defense as used by Typhoid Mary.

Its been pretty well established that the President downplayed any concerns with the effects for this country as he continues to do so even as significant outbreaks are occurring. He left the states to their own devices because the Federal Government was unwilling to take a leadership role and establish a baseline response standard for them to build off of. He publicly chastised their efforts, went from he was in charge to they are in charge and all the while bragging what a great job he was doing. To place the blame on the States and Cities who don't have access to the information that the Federal Government does is just another example of him not taking any responsibility.

States can't shut down airports, states can't stop interstate or international travel, states can't dictate what screenings occur at their airports so don't give me this garbage that Governors and Mayors could be doing that. Hospitals did try and prepare in many cases but as the rest of the world was responding we did nothing and the National Stockpile for this type of event was severely under supplied or much of the materials were out of date and no good to use. Of course the President would only release items to those that kissed the ring and praised him like the narcissist that he is, everyone else had to shop on Amazon to try and find what they needed.

As for the CDC statement of 1 April they said "Responding to a video clip of the interview on Twitter, the surgeon general's account said health officials, including the surgeon general's office, the CDC and the World Health Organization, had recommended against the general public wearing face masks "based on the best available science at the time regarding whether or not they prevent wearers from catching coronavirus."
Pretty sad that all the agency's this country has in place that haven't been defunded/eliminated yet by this President and his Administration and the only thing you can quote is a piece of response to a damn tweet months ago.

Enjoy the rally tomorrow, don't wear a mask and don't forget Fearless Leader know best....

Keep us updated. It will be interesting to see what happens when it reaches 100% which should be this weekend.
