How are these "brown people" being screwed over when they were never legitimate in the first place?
Why should children be punished for the immigration crimes their parents committed? A bank robber goes into a bank with a toddler in tow, hanging on to Dad's pant leg. Do you prosecute the child as an accessory to the crime? Of course not.
Trump is the winner here. Had the court ruled in his favor he would have been pressured by his devotees to expel DACA recipients. The problem is that DACA recipients are overwhelmingly seen in a favorable light by Americans, not to mention the damage that would do to the latino vote. Trump can kick them out next year anyway after the election.
You only think that because you agree with this ruling. What happens if a bunch of conservative get on there? I have long said those appointments ought to be limited to 20 years, ruling I agree with or not.
However, what in the crap kind of information does someone have on Roberts? Seriously, some of the stuff he has been ruling on recently seem to go against his own past rulings.
I think he is joining the ranks of many Americans who are alarmed at what they are seeing with Trump, and is simply making sure he is voting with his mind, and not by ideology. These guys are life-long dedicated to preserving our founding values. I may not (DO NOT) agree with all his interpretations, but I think he must be seeing the harm that blind support of a ill-intended commander in chief is causing. Just like Bolton, Kelly, Tillerson, and so, so, so many more. Even Lindsey Graham had a moment of decency when he ackowledged the plight of African Americans. I suspect he'll be next to get lambasted by Trump, if he hasn't already. I really don't pay attention to Trump anymore than I have to.
First, everyone agrees that Trump can end DACA if he wants to. That particular question was never an issue. Every side has agreed that Trump has the power under law to end the program. So what was this case about? Whether the Trump administration went through the right process to end DACA. Under the "Administrative Procedures Act," when the government takes an action, it has to follow the right procedures. One of those procedures is to consider what's known as the "reliance interests" of people affected by a change in policy. That is, if you're going to do policy X, and it will affect groups A & B, you must actually take the interests of groups A & B into consideration. You can still go forward with the policy, you just have to show you actually considered all sides of the problem. When the Trump administration (not Trump) ended DACA, the memorandums from the DHS Secretaries ending the program did not take any reliance interests into account. At all. So what Justice Roberts did today is say "Look, we all agree that you can end DACA. But you can't just wave your hand and ignore all the 800,000 people were granted DACA since the program started. You need to show you actually considered what would happen to them. And because you didn't, it's back to square one."
This isn't a big win for DACA yet. It's just a ruling on procedures that need to be followed.
Exactly correct. Your explanation is fact. The left doesn't see or understand that this can be sent back to DHS for a redo with provisions for those already here. Their emotional reaction is off from what the reality is, as usual.

Your opinion of Trump is irrelevant. It has been extremely well-documented that he didn’t intend to deport our current DACA recipients. He wanted a deal. Dems said no.
I highly doubt there will be any further compromises now. DACA fans can cheer today, but today’s ruling might in fact bring any further discussion of their citizenship or immigration reform to a crashing halt if Trump wins a second term.
