Colorado Police Reform Bill Passes, Governor signs it, gives criminals everything they wanted !!!

Police officers can be sued for misconduct by getting rid of the qualified immunity defense that generally protects government workers from lawsuits.

As long as the cop has a perfect day everyday or has $ 25,000 to fork over when he makes a mistake it will be a great job !!! Have a few bad days and they could be into it like a doctor with student loans !!!

Other than that its has some good stuff in the bill !!!

Officers can be sued in their individual capacities
Under the law, officers may be sued in their individual capacities and be liable for up to $25,000 worth of damages.

Absurd thread title.

This hardly gives criminals everything they want.

Ending qualified immunity was a good step. Police are not better people than anyone else. They make mistakes and commit crimes just the same.

What more could a criminal want ? Maybe have the cop be the get away driver, I suppose that could be it !!!

One thing is for sure they won't be better than anyone else in the future !!! No one with any intelligence will want the job !!!

Who else has a job that a mistake would require them to pay $ 25,000 ? A job where every call is unpredictable and may require instant judgement and the life they save might be their own !!!

I'm okay with this. Police shouldn't be get qualified immunity, in my opinion. The only question is who would foot the legal fees ($25,000)? You know some people will abuse this and just sue a cop for anything and everything.

Another one here who NEVER agrees wit you but agrees here. Cops will just carry insurance like other have to do. Next, lets get rid of Police Unions and all public sector unions who work against the citizens that pay them.

Good cops should retire out based on on-the-job injuries, so they enjoy a good retirement that they deserve. Great job libs!

There are lots of different ways the immunity issue could play out !!! Maybe the police union will foot the 25k and legal bills !!! They could pay part of it or up the dues and pay it all !!! Get umbrella insurance for all their members !!!
The bigger problem is the way things could spin out of control depending on all the different circumstances !!!

Just for the sake of argument here is one :

Cop gets call shots fired !!! Arrives and sees gunman shoot someone !!! Does everything correct prior to shooting the gunman dead !!! Investigation reveals the gunman had fired his last round and cop shot him and he had an empty gun !!! Red flag, in comes slip and fall Saul !!! Cop shoots defenseless valedictorian !!!
