I learned in my Arctic population studies that Inuit was the term for the peoples in North America but in regions such as Greenland (didn't study Europe), it was Eskimo.

This. I'm very late to this thread because of my work with the Native tribes in remote Alaska. They aren't Eskimos and they don't like being called Eskimos. The name should be dropped. They don't live in igloos either.
