“We have been saying 'wear a mask’ and ‘6 feet apart’ for months,” tweeted Abraar Karan, a physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School. “Cloth masks are not designed to block aerosols. And 6 feet apart may be insufficient, esp indoors w/ poor ventilation.”

The change should drive people to adopt concrete solutions to slowing airborne transmission, Jimenez said, such as wearing more tightly fitting masks, improving ventilation and keeping as much distance as possible from others when indoors.

So basically priming us now for even more restrictions. Now they are saying we need different types of masks (so the cloth ones that have your favorite football team or college on the front that most people are wearing probably don't fly) and we have to keep "ten feet apart" or whatever. Full face shields or even full body suits probably won't be out of the question eventually

We've needed N95s since the pandemic began. The Trump administration lied about that because they bungled the production of masks. To this day, they are hard to find even for our health care workers. The richest and largest manufacturing nation in history can't provide something as basic as adequate facial coverings. That is why they took down the science and are lying once again. The CDC has no credibility any more. It is nothing but a propaganda tool of Trump.

Can and must mean different things. You can mitigate, not eliminate.

If it's bad news, they're a reliable source. If CDC says anything like "most people wont die", then they are lying for Trump.

As many of us have been saying cloth masks, bandanas do nothing. Even N95 masks are only good for an hour definitely no more than a few hours and people are wearing these for days. Not sanitizing them etc...

The masks are just pacifiers.

The article explicitly states that the CDC has not called for any new action. These are GUIDELINES. You are being given INFORMATION.

Don't follow them, your choice, just don't say that nobody warned you.

There's never been a 100% fail safe way other than complete avoidance (ie quarantine)

Little late for that, isn't he?

More and more people don't even want to obey wearing masks and 6 feet apart.

So, your cheap 25. cent bodega mask or homemade cutup underwear with elastic isn’t enough for an airborne virus? Say it ant so.....
