And this was before the Miami Marlins' home opener had to be cancelled because too many of their players had COVID.

No fan of any politician, but consider the DeSantis position for a moment and ask yourself what you would do were you the governor of a state whose economy depends primarily on tourism and the face-to-face economy of restaurants, bars, beaches, parties, etc.

Everyone is armchair quarterbacking this crap so well, by all means, detail how DeSantis should have proceeded in a state that not only depends on people freely coming and going in/out and within the state, but also gathering in large herds at the state's various tourist traps. Detail for us your 100% everyone wins solution that he and his entire administration somehow failed to conjure up, when an internet ghost had the problem solved all along?

Same goes for CA, TX, NY, wherever. Everyone thinks they have THE solution that apparently neither Dem nor Republican has, which is stop chaos theory from being chaotic. So please, explain how you simply eliminate entropy in the natural world, and do so in a country of 330 million that also has more freedom of movement than any other country in existence, and depends on that freedom of movement more than any other country in existence.

If it's so simple, your explanation shouldn't take long.

Interesting. If I had the time (and inclination) I would like to know where the 924 registered voters they surveyed were from.

DeSantis has allowed the local governments freedom to meet their own requirements with regard to COVID-19. After all, why should a county like Okeechobee be required to follow the same restrictions as Miami-Dade?

To start with, you don't keep your state open simply to please a know-nothing president who doesn't believe in science. You look at the data, listen to the epidemiologists and healthcare experts, and act accordingly, which in the case means closing down before it gets out of control. This was not New York, which was unprepared for what hit them. Florida had the benefit of watching this virus take down other states for months, and still sided with the president that it was no big deal, nothing that actually needed drastic action.

If we start right there, the rest of what you write is moot.

DeSantis chose politics over the wellbeing of his constituents. And his constituents are letting him know how they feel about that. As is their right.

Desantis should resign he has been a complete failure. He could of done the bare minimum impose a mandatory mask order social distance and close down at risk places like gyms, beaches, bars etc.

He doesn't want to face the wrath of dear leader so he uses the people of Flordia as bargaining chips. He will prob go down as the worst governor of the state.

When you have 10 to 15k people coming down the Virus a day and hundreds dying a day you need to take off your MAGA hat and lead.

Republicans have done a horrible job handling this pandemic their gross incompetence will cost them this November.

I don't think Chicago is any different. We are a service vs manufacturing nation. All service industries where shuttered here as well. Here's the difference between handling this with science vs messaging.

Our governor shut us down early with a stay at home mandate. We have a statewide mask mandate. We are in phase 4 of opening up. Our infection rate is still under 5, but our cases are still ticking up. That's to be expected with opening up. Unfortunately 6 of our 102 counties have seen a spike because people are not doing what they are supposed to do. It will be interesting to see what our governor does about this.

Now for the messaging vs science response. "Open up Michigan." I'm suing to stop the mask mandate your Democratic mayor has instituted. Political rally? No problem, just sign a release that you won't sue if you get sick. You don't need to social distance or wear a mask. What 500 cases of Covid connected to the rally and a Senator in the hospital? It's a Democrat hoax invented to make me look bad.

This is the playbook of anyone who wants to stay on Trump's good side vs doing what's right to keep people safe.

Some people will be Covidiots for the rest of their life and keep drinking that orange koolaid, but most people? I think they're smarter than that and that reflects in low poll numbers.

Imagine hoe much better we would be doing with good leadership at the top following science vs gas lighting and lies. Freedom? What freedom? The virus took away our freedom and too many of us are not doing the right thing to stop this.

Not just that, back in May he boasted, saying how everyone was rooting for his state to fail and he proved them all wrong. That did not age well.

DeSantis is governor of the state more dependent on tourism and the face-to-face & travel economy than any other state in the union, except maybe Hawai'i. He has economic repercussions to answer to, as well as health and wellness.

So I put the challenge to you since you are being fierce in your condemnation. You are told by medical people to shut down, but you know what that does to your state economy. You know full well how many businesses and lives you will destroy with that order, and you know, based on what both the medical experts are telling you as well as what the economic/business experts are telling you, that number of lives destroyed by the economic shutdown far exceeds the number who will be destroyed by covid....

Now you get to make the choice. He isn't just governor of old people who might get sick. He is also the governor of the average person who has a >99% chance to survive covid and far less % chance to survive the collapse of their business, their employer's business or an entire industry.

To date, Florida has 5,853 deaths attributed to covid. As of today, Florida also has a population of 21.48 million people and an economy primarily dependent on tourism and the face-to-face economy. You have a bunch more numbers to look at than just deaths attributed to covid, as well as more context than just that singular vacuum of covid deaths isolated from all other socioeconomic data a governor must concern themselves with.

So you tell me, do that bean counting like you really are accountable to more than just virtue signaling hysterics.
