As much as I didn't want to see the shutdowns happen, how else we're we going to handle Covid-19, considering how fast it spread?

That's above my paygrade.
But the "plan" we had, failed.

What lockdowns? The travel industry alone is destroyed and that's by people's choice. People aren't travelling. Planes aren't flying. Hotels, restaurants, attractions are suffering. All the businesses that supply and support them. That's a lot of employees right there. Poof. Their business is gone and you can't flip a switch and turn it back on.

RE: lockdowns - yeah we have opened up a bit from where we were 4 months ago, but there are still shutdowns in place and likely to get worse in the fall.

Well, what else could have been done? Doing nothing has proven to be disastrous. Look at Sweden. They did nothing and they ended up with death rates among the highest in the world. The currently plan has been a failure, but under the circumstances (not acting fast enough), I don't see any other way of dealing with this until a vaccine comes out. This is literally what it is, and there is little else that can be done.

Is what it is. Victims of the virus paranoia created in no small part by the media...

The wife is in medical billing and I work in metalworking related to the food industry... (think stainless steel conveyor systems at the meat processing plants)

Both jobs deemed essential... both haven't missed a day of work.

Glad we aren't flight attendants or McJob cashiers.

Yep.

Haven't cancelled the December cruise vacation and trip to Disney Orlando just yet... but not expecting it to happen. Still may take the flight though... her parents live there and our vacation may consist of spending 2 weeks at their house.

We never had a real lockdown. Exceptions and willful defiance were everywhere. We just took a half-assed piecemeal approach with predictable results.
