Rape is a flexible term in the US. Some women know how to work the system. The rest do not really need to know, just point a fuzzy finger at a prospective rapist, the system will turn man' life to hell at no cost to a woman. The guy snapped. We do not know why.

I agree there have been business owners and CEO's who have taken advantage of the less powerful. I'm not sure it has cost anyone their lives, but quite likely their livelihood and retirement. For this they should have spent time in jail and lost everything. However, this thread isn't about them, so I don't know what your point is? Are you making excuses for the rapist, because that is what is sounds like?
They weren't suppose to release prisoners of violent crimes which rape is one. They were only suppose to release non-violent prisoners within a certain amount of time of completing their sentence.
Someone really dropped the ball here... oh... the court did

The trial was delayed... court system failed to find a way to continue work even through the pandemic... they failed. If the court system had the case, this fellow would have been imprisoned coronavirus or not.
