.
The decline of the CA GOP began with Pete Wilson in 1994 who used racial wedge politics to win a desperate reelection campaign. Unfortunately for them, they signed their own demise with that election.

These types of stories are designed to misguide clueless people.
That ignores the fact that the Republican party is shrinking...because of Trump.

And water is wet. This is a surprise to no one who has been paying attention.

I agree. Large doses of truth can be harmful when concentrated and taken all at once.

The Republican Party will be interesting to watch on the next few year. Will Trump make it irrelevant like the Federalists and Whigs before them and die off due to irrelevance, or will it become the reconstructionist era Democratic Party and win states and a few house and senate seats but presidentially not a factor.

The Republican party has survived FAR longer than the Whigs or Federalists did, so I don't see it dying off completely. It will likely evolve somehwat.

GOP Strategist: Trump is Destroying the Republican Party

When I first heard that Trump was in the primary I made some remarks about how unfit he was, and my dear friend the diehard Republican was all praises of him. I couldn't believe it, and told her "he would destroy the party". Later my dear diehard friend gleefully stated "she is looking forward to the debates" and I said "it will be a disaster". She then said "he says what people are thinking", to which I replied "what he says is NOT what I'm thinking".

After Trump won the nomination my dear friend assumed I would finally support Trump. I seriously thought about it. Other friends approached me all excited about Trump. I didn't really know why, or how, they could support a person like him. I told them each and every one right at that time "he will destroy the party".

I have long since left the Republicans behind and good riddance ... now I see this headline.

The Republican Party lasted due to periods of division in the Democratic party, prior to it evolving especially during the 1960's.
