Remember the TDS crowd insisting that President Trump had failed, because places like Japan and New Zealand had successfully avoided community spread of this virus? Well, it was just a matter of time and now both places have imposed their own measures as community spread has begun.

A couple of facts about the Wuhan virus:

1. It is extremely virulent and it spreads very fast. Once it establishes itself in a population, there is not much that can be done to stop it spreading.
2. For the vast majority of people, it is not very dangerous at all. People who are older and have other morbidities need to take precautions. For everyone else, it is not significantly more dangerous than driving on the public roadways.

This virus continues to mutate and produce new strains, as viruses tend to do. We cannot cower and hide from this virus until it somehow goes away. We have to go through this. Life is full of risks and we are all forced to confront many of them. Including this.
Amen. We cannot control this virus and we must learn to live with it, even if we must sacrifice a few lives.

Using the response to prove the cause is a fallacy

As long as you refuse to wear surgical face masks you're condemned to be COVID's *****.

Everyone is going to die. We cannot stop that from happening. We do not control exactly when, where and how, we die, except in very rare cases.

Lives are being sacrificed by trying to lock everyone down and wring our hands until this virus, and all the following strains of this virus somehow disappear. This is extremely harmful and damaging, and yes, people are dying as a result of this paranoid policy approach.

To take risks, to confront difficult and sometimes impossible challenges, and eventually to die, is part of life here on this planet for us. There is no way around that.

We are amazingly adaptable creatures and we have to go through this. This too shall pass. Let us not be cowards about it in the meantime.

What you suggest is to not adapt to the realities of the virus and let it proliferate.

Most all of your response is an emotional appeal without dispensing any facts.

New Zealand is isolated, but becoming a COVID hot spot will kill travel, tourism, and trade.

American passports are essentially useless now

This is the same Communist dictator that banned and confiscated guns only from the law abiding.

The virus is proliferating. That is the reality of this virus. It cannot be stopped at this point.

In fact, from the moment that the 'Flatten the curve' strategy was first announced, it has not been the goal to stop it from proliferating. Instead the goal was just to slow it down enough so as to make the progress of its proliferation manageable for our hospitals and healthcare system.

The political adversaries of President Trump have tried to make the case that if only we had behaved like New Zealand (one of the most isolated places on Earth), and also Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, then we would have escaped the proliferation of this virus. Now all of those places except Taiwan have been afflicted with community spread as well.

Terrorizing the population and pressuring them to behave like helpless cowards has not stopped this virus from proliferating and it will not stop it going forward. People need to accept this and get on with their lives, with each person taking what steps that they personally may require to adapt and move on.

This is not going away. There are other strains developing. And it is not nearly as dangerous as the totalitarian lockdown crowd has tried to terrorize the masses into believing that it is.

Again, we cannot stop this virus from proliferating at this point. Failure to accept that is to not adapt to the actual reality that we are facing.

In case it's not clear, failure to bring the outbreak down to a manageable level destroys the economy.

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, the "Progressive' leader of New Zealand, has postponed the elections as a result of the most recent outbreak and spread of the Wuhan virus in Auckland, the nation's capital.

New Zealand delays election after virus outbreak in Auckland

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has delayed New Zealand's elections by four weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak in Auckland. The election had been scheduled for Sept. 19 but will now be held on Oct. 17. Opposition parties had sought a delay after the virus outbreak prompted the government last week to put Auckland under a two-week lockdown and halted election campaigning.
Do not be surprised to see it delayed, yet again. But it will not matter. This virus is too virulent. It cannot be stopped forever, including all its various future strains.

You first.

I don't measure my life by how many unnecessary things I must buy every Wednesday and Saturday at the local dumbbum warehouse store or how many times I can eat chicken wings at the Hooterville Chicken and Chitlin' chain restaurant in the presence of a hundred strangers, or whether I can go see Lady Strumpet in concert in person at the Grand Trumpmaga Casino; nor do I have special insight on whether Thomas Jefferson would have an opinion on whether covering my nose and mouth with cloth equates to taxation without representation as one of life's greatest tyrannies.

I do feel that when I do need to venture out in crowds or in close quarters in order to do my job as a first responder, or to pick up groceries now and again, that I shouldn't need to be sacrificed at the altar of conservative herd mentality - oops I mean herd immunity - fallacy.
