People love to talk about how great New Zealand is doing with Covid. Currently anyone who tests positive in NZ is required to spend two week in a quarantine facility, which I believe is a hotel.
I think this is an extreme and dangerous measure but have seen people comment in other forums that this is a good move. Just wondering what others think of this. Would you support forcing people to quarantine in the USA, away from their homes if they tested positive for Covid? Is it worth it in order to eliminate Covid?
No, it is not. Testing is highly inaccurate, and even with the chance that if one tests positive that they must give the names of their contacts, and that they and their contacts will be told to self-quarantine for 2 weeks, has probably ended up keeping some from medical care. The idea that if I tested positive and would be moved to a quarantine facility, I would have to be near death to elect that choice. Seems it would do more harm than good.
Also, of those that seek medical attention, the death rate if 1/10th of a percent. Many people don't even know they have it. It is most dangerous in nursing homes, and they really should have been able to control that, if one was to control anything, and they couldn't.
well of course your stats may vary. I suspect the death toll is gamed extensively for both financial and political gain. I also suspect you'll deny such or say they're being underreported. Neither of us can prove anything. We both have an agenda, mine is freedom, lord only knows what yours is.
Regardless, even if we take your number at face value, a solid 98% of those who get the virus recover fully or show no symptoms and since the at risk groups are known, the reaction to this is totally off the charts. Even more so, criminal even when the side effects of the reactions are taken into account

Violation of a quarantine order is still a criminal act almost everywhere in the US.

Plain and simple: I'm not agreeing to be locked down until others tell me it's safe to not be locked down. Most people survive this virus and we are headed down an extremely slippery slope in terms of people's freedoms.
Look at that big Sturgis motorcycle rally. 200,000 people attended. Where are all the Covid cases from it? Haven't heard a thing.

Just getting back to the last century, before America turned into a bunch of whiners. I remember in the '50s the county health officer would nail a quarantine notice on the door, and anybody who violated it got to sit out the quarantine in jail.
Well, you got one thing right, it is the politicians, namely, Trump and his response to this pandemic and subsequently those of his GOP boot lickers .
