As stated....NYC has been resilient. BUT, they have never faced something called bandwidth before.
Plus, it sure doesn't look like the people in charge of the city are in any hurry to get things rolling again. From where I sit, read and look...not much concern over it either.

The reasons for New York's current demise is basically threefold.
1. The Virus has had an impact on big cities across the world including NYC.
2. At the same time the rioting and lack of response by certain left wing Mayors and other officials has further aggravated the situation.
3. The future is unclear as many feel that certain professions and transactions can now be done without the need of the office or from home.
However whether this leads to the demise of great cities like NYC s debatable, as they are not just financial and economic hubs but are also social and cultural hubs.
As for blaming Trump, some of his responses to the virus were debatable but he wasn't responsible for the virus, and was not responsible for the resulting global economic meltdown. Trump was also not responsible for Antifa and BLM rioting and pathetic behaviour, or the lack of response in places such as Portland, Seattle and Chicago.
I am not a Trump or a Biden supporter, and generally have a deep seated mistrust of politicians however lets have some balance and not just blame Trump for every bad thing that happens.
From what i understand, the charm of NYC was all the boutiques, restaurants, etc that were right outside your door if you live in the right places. which were very prevalent. They renters could afford 250 square foot apartments because they could go outdoors for everything. Once those places closed and got trashed, it totally fubared the whole area. now all they have is a stupid closet-sized 250 square foot apartment with $2,400 a month rent.
So sad for the restaurants that were there for 150 years making pizza and stuff and now suffering.

Maybe it will be like West Side Story again.
De Blasio is busy emptying the prisons and getting rid of bail, and I am sure the Jets and Sharks from West Side Story would have made bail.
Sadly crime, the homeless and other social issues that De Blasio has failed to address properly are now adding to NYC's problems and another reason why people are leaving.
The best thing NYC could do is to elect a different Mayor at the first opportunity, and the same is true of numerous other US Cities.

Somebody has to lead America, so who do you support? Or, are you a Brit, so you don't need to support any American for President?
I too have a deep seated mistrust of politicians, but at the end of the day, I must pick the least worst one of them to lead.
Back on topic...New York City...it will come back to some extent, but it has already seen its best days. Like nearly every other Democrat controlled city, it is being destroyed by Dem policies & polititicians. Democrats are like a huge wrecking ball.
Why would anyone vote for Dems to have more power, after what they've done to America's once great cities?
