Yeah, once one of the social workers gets the crap beat out of them, they might realize you need some muscle with guns at certain times.
Scary criminal sociopath types don't respect a soft approach.
Yes, and unfortunately, with the feminization of the field of social work, you have the softest of the soft, many times, occupying those positions. No street sense and naivete off the charts. Young criminals and miscreants literally rub their hands together at the opportunity to manipulate them.
My father's first job out of college around 1970 was as a juvenile case worker, back when it was a mostly male field, still. The approach was radically different and there was a more streetwise, non-nonsense approach. My favorite story was one day he walked into the office and about four young employees were crowded around a phone, all talking to some belligerent caller. It turned out to be a client who was drunk and threatening suicide. The employees kept talking and talking. Then one of the older, experienced employees walked in and asked, "What the h___ is going on?" They told him that Bill was on the phone, threatening suicide. The experienced guy said, "Give me the phone." He responded to Bill as such: "Bill, call us back when you're sober." Click. Can you imagine that today? Bill did not commit suicide.
