WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's lament this week that immigration is "changing the culture" of Europe echoed rising anti-immigrant feelings on both sides of the Atlantic, where Europe and the United States are going through a demographic transformation that makes some of the white majority uncomfortable.

Historians and advocates immediately denounced Trump's comments, saying such talk would encourage white nationalists.

"I just think it's changing the culture. I think it's a very negative thing for Europe. I think it's very negative," he said. "I think it's very much hurt other parts of Europe. And I know it's politically not necessarily correct to say that, but I'll say it and I'll say it loud. And I think they better watch themselves because you are changing culture, you are changing a lot of things."

"The way he put this argument about changing our culture ... about Europe becoming less nice than it is, in other words, these people are here and they are making the culture crappy and making the place lesser, that's straight out of the white supremacist/white nationalist playbook," said Heidi Beirich, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center's Intelligence Project.

Beirich called those comments "racist."

Of course, Trump was 100% right. And now the French are finally getting it. Will the Democrats ever understand this? Doubt it.

Same thing happened to America, I am under no illusion Trump's election and reelection will change America for the better but it did slow the inevitable down, there will still be a war if we want to keep America.

Well, it’s true and this is something that all the Europeans are now realizing.

This is the problem with America, people will get offended when something is true... “I” prefer to hear the truth, not some BS political correctness line Of “sheet” that doesn’t address the real concerns and problems.

This is now something the “cultured” Europeans are now figuring out for themselves.

...Before I’m flamed as a racist, I’m a person of Color who doesn’t see colors when facing a cold hard fact that something is wrong and needs to be addressed.

Immigration Act of 1965 was a disaster. Glad I won’t be around when the U.S. ends up like Brazil.

Yep maybe worse in America with so much more illegals and immigrants. It's turning formerly vibrant neighborhoods into 3rd world feeling s-holes. I just came from the market in my old formerly vibrant childhood neighborhood because I was out that way. It feels and sounds like a 3rd world ghetto but it's actually still a middle class neighborhood.

So we're dredging up a two year old quote that pretty much every continental European would agree with?

Have you been to western europe recently? Its destroyed by immigration..... last time I was in Berlin was scary and had to fend off a group of migrants under the alexanderplatz..... I felt way safer in Lithuania visiting family.

So this other culture just beheaded a teacher in France.

It's not a matter if you believe in diversity, do they?

There are parts of the south of France and parts of Sweden that are no go zones.
