I have no issue with the selection, provided they are qualified. I won't say most qualified because do they ever pick the most qualified?

This isn't gigantic news. I hate that they always have to make race a qualifier in the news reports.
I agree; why was his race highlighted in the announcement? It's almost as if the "news" is saying "Biden takes a risk on having a Black man as sec def" WTF is that?

Powell and Rice were Secretary of State and National Security Advisor, respectively (Powell was both at different times), neither was Secretary of Defense.

Is there a reason to think he isn't qualified?

Correct me if I am wrong, but Biden didn't say he'd only consider certain identities for this job.

Please don't tell me he is an equal opportunity candidate. Review his history in the army. You don't command elements of the 82nd airborne without earning it.

No, I do not like Biden or Trump. Why attack this Soldier over politics? He seems to be a good man.
It's safe to presume he's a sociopathic politician, like anyone else who reaches that level these days.

Right, he said that just for the VP position.

If you don't like Biden, then just admit you don't like him. However, this is just a cop out.
No, but it's pretty likely, almost certain, given his record: He vowed to pick a black female (about 7% of the US population) as his VP, and he did. So yes, he picks based on race. So did Obama - he picked a guy for the Administrator of NASA who said the chief goal of the Agency was Muslim outreach (all along I thought it was peaceful space exploration ....). Nice guy, but probably the worst Administrator NASA has ever had (and they're had some doozies).

We need a non-military person to be Secretary of Defense.

The candidate would have to over-qualified to attain that position in the nation’s military. Any slacker, much less a nonwhite one could not have reached that post. Like they said in an SNL skit, the blacks will still complain.

What rhetoric?

That the left, like Clyburn, demand people of color be chosen for positions in Biden's admin due to the color of their skin?
