"Here's a scenario I dreamt up in my head and you're the bad guys in it, so defend yourself!" Sorry, your daydreams aren't something that the rest of us have to take seriously.

Exactly. Some people just don't think, lol. No politician benefits from this. If anything, just the opposite. Nobody wants these lockdown/restriction measures.

We're probably going to be clear for now with vaccinations and herd immunity, but have new shutdowns once in a while every 5-10 years.

What does a “ what if” sceneries have to do with facts?

I do in fact care. Would have liked to see some effective Europe-style government intervention, but we can't do that - that's socialism, ooga booga. I guess that in my optics, the lives of people count more than my stock portfolio - your mileage obviously varies.

And - of course - if the plague rats stay on the trajectory, we'll overload the hospitals, and see some proper systematic breakdown spillover into disease treatment in general - and that will blow up the economy way more efficiently. But no one is going to tell a proper red-blooded American to cancel Thanksgiving, now, are they?

But hey, there are business opportunities in this new world you're trying to build.

See? Bunch of iPads being prepped for virtual ICU end-of-life visits. This is the world you're building.

Fun fact. There are still deaths from the flu despite a vaccine

Think you might have inverted the percentage.

80% of asymptomatic people who test positive develop symptoms. Therefore, it may be more precise to say, pre- symptomatic than asymptomatic.

20% do not report any symptoms.

Those under age 40 tend to experience mild to no symptoms. Those age 40+ almost always experience symptoms. There is a huge range of symptoms between asymptomatic and death.

Those experiencing no- mild symptoms are more likely to ignore the need to self quarantine.

And it spreads.
