If you has chicken pox the virus that causes chicken pox and shingles is dormant in your body. It can be triggered at any time. If you come down with shingles at best you are looking at four weeks of being miserable. The efficacy of the current vaccine is very high. It save a month of misery.
That kid was more "at risk" on the basketball court than he was getting the vaccine.
First of all, we saw the outcome, didn't we? So say it again.
Second, we don't even know the generalized risk to kids are from these vaccines. Data is nonexistent, too little. We do know their risk from Covid, and it's next to 0.

It is true that there are no long term studies on the mRNA vaccines in humans. So if that is your concern go with the J and J or astra zeneca vaccines that don't contain mRNA and are based on the old school dead virus well established vaccine protocol.

Anyone taking part were test subjects. mRNA vaccines have never been used on a large scale in humans. We’re allowed to be skeptical about putting things into our bodies and our kids’ bodies.

There is no question that covid causes organ damage and permanent or at least long term health issues in many people who survived infections. Vaccines are preventing millions of people from being another statistic.
Anti vaxxers: But what about the million in one chance in dying or 1 in 200,000 chance in blood clots!
It puts other non vaccinated people at risk. Right now only 30% of people are vaccinated. The goal is to stop Americans from dying. I care about more than myself. When we get to 75% of the US population vaccinated, I'd agree whoever isn't vaccinated at that point has accepted the risk is poses to them.
Once everyone's had the chance to get vaccinated (which is basically now), then the other unvaccinated people have chosen to take that risk themselves.
But everyone else, time to get your teens protected!
