I would like to think that the best qualified candidate is offered the position but history has shown otherwise, gender, race and ethnicity have all been factors to limit minority representation in government and jobs in general. If 2 people are equal in their abilities than why not look at placing a minority or female over a white male if it helps to ensure an accurate representation of those you are looking to serve.

Ah yes, we must atone for our past. Ya' know, from when most of us were not born yet.

If your best friend was found to be a serial killer, must you then condone serial killing?

Kamala Harris was the Attorney General for the biggest law enforcement office in the country. She was AG for California for 7 years, and she's been a United States senator for three years.

With a background in law enforcement (which Trump supporters should LOVE), and having experience in Congress, Kalama Harris is more than qualified to be Vice President.

Very easily dismissed example from conservatives. Got any other black nominees that you feel aren't qualified?

Say, did you know Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov (Lenin) had a law degree? He'd also be highly qualified if he were alive, no?

(point, in case it flew over any heads: academic "qualifications," or even experience, are not sufficient qualities when choosing elected government officials. Ideology just M I G H T be prudently considered. In fact, they might just be the MOST IMPORTANT determining factor)

Not atone for our past and the practices have been on going right up through modern times ..
Read these boards the derogatory comments are frequently racists, sexist and in general pretty down right nasty to woman and those of color. I don't care if you like Vice President elect Harris but the sexual allegations being posted against her when we have a President who has over 25 allegations and charges of sexual impropriety against him, but she's a s**t and he's just being a guy...

Yes. Remember when the Bush administration appointed a VETERINARIAN, Dr. Norris Alderson, to replace Dr. Susan Wood as acting director of the Office of Women's Health at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)? White men clearly are not the answer to everything. There needs to be better perspective in order to represent and govern ALL Americans. They need to be qualified, but this most recent administration has shown even that to be unnecessary. It's about time that diversity tilts the scale when there are multiple qualified candidates.

Could it be that some people who "do not like her" are opposed to her philosophies and political goals rather than her past sexual conduct or activities? Is that possible? Or is that too complex a reason for you to fathom?

Personally, I don't care if she used to be a triple XXX porn queen. Doesn't matter to me. And I certainly don't give a **** what color her skin is.

Biden doesn't care for many of these Cabinet selections. He just selected their names so that the Senate can disapprove them and he can look like a multi-cultural liberal (which he's not). Politics 101.

Would anyone owning a company on which his and his family's welfare depended, who was rationally interested in producing the highest-quality product or service and achieving the highest level of success, make any hiring decision on the basis of race or ethnicity? Would such an individual think achieving diversity was rationally related to his objectives? I don't think so.

Alas, we no longer demand or expect government to operate rationally. Diversity and tolerance are now transcendent goals, the consequences be damned.

Nearly 40 years ago, I worked at the corporate headquarters of one of the then most famous Fortune 100 companies in America, which shall remain nameless. The company had the most aggressive affirmative action program imaginable. Every year, Black Opportunity magazine (does it still exist?) would select the ten companies that provided the greatest opportunities for Blacks. They had never ranked those companies but one year while I was there finally recognized ours as the best of the best.

Because of my position, I interacted with executives at all levels from the CEO on down. I was literally staggered at the incompetence I encountered. Suffice it to say, the company is now a Fortune 400 company even though it was and is a high-technology company. The moral being, making diversity a transcendent goal is not going to translate into success in government or business.
