Massachusetts congressman Jim McGovern would rather not see Bill Belichick bring home a Presidential Medal of Freedom and is calling on the New England Patriots coach to “do the right thing and say, ‘no thanks.’”
President Donald Trump will reportedly give Belichick the nation’s highest civil honor in a ceremony on Thursday after a tumultuous and deadly week in Washington, D.C. Five people, including a Capitol police officer, died while Trump supporters mobbed the Capitol to try and overturn the election results.
What has Bill Belichick done to earn a Presidential Medal of Freedom?
I was wondering the same thing.
I get it why someone like Rush Limbaugh was given the Medal due to his decades of dedication to bringing a voice for politics to millions of people but Bill Belichick ?
I was curious so I looked up the list of people that Obama gave it to during his terms and many were pioneers for such things as gay Rights, Billy Jean King, to protest song writers like Bob Dylan to "news" reporters like Tom Brokaw to several Hollywood celebrities like Tom Hanks, Robert Deniro and Meryl Streep. Micheal Jordan got one as did Joe Biden with distinction.
Sooo I guess Trump giving one to Belichick is not that far fetched.
I hope Bill doesn't play politics and listen to the jerks that will be screaming for his head if he dares to go to DC.
I'm a huge Patriots fan and for the life of me I could only stretch a guess as to why Belichick deserves this. Coaching a winning team of Patriots (except for this season)? Being a great farmer who had a GOAT for 20 years? Being the leader of a dynasty? Beats the ever living sh*t out of me.

I don't think it means anyone made that decision for him, necessarily.
People use the passive tense all the time to refer to things they did.
