But is that merely the result of expressing a differing opinion? Or is it because the employers feel that these people used bad judgement participating in this event? My company holds us accountable for our actions, as representatives of our company, as many companies do. It's not a new thing, it's been happening for a good while. There are plenty accounts, going back at least a decade, of people losing their jobs over posting stupid stuff on social media or behaving badly in public on their own time.
IMO the jury is still out on whether or not some of the companies are overreacting or not. I have no idea if they are basing those decisions on people merely being there, or if there is actual evidence of participation in illegal acts.

I'm against the Capitol rioters as much as anyone but I got to say, the extent of some of the punishments has me concerned. It has a distinct essence of cancel culture, a phenomenon I complete disagree with. So stripped of past earned awards? I feel like responding with, "you've got to be kidding". I saw where a nurse was fired for participating in the riots. I'm on the fence on that call. That might depend on the details at her workplace, post riot.

Here's a clue for you. Just because he won gold medals doesn't mean he gives up his First Amendment rights to peacefully protest the government for redress of grievances. Even when it makes Nancy cry.

I'm with you. The response to the riot is more concerning, the guilt, canceling and blacklisting by association, painting with a broad brush, a sham impeachment, double standards and hypocrisy, turning DC into a military fortress etc. The response is just beyond the pale.

Now contrast that to the response to 4 years of leftist rioting

I am for whatever is needed to make the inauguration go without another incident like at the capitol. I don't know what is meant by "4 years of leftist rioting". We had rioting this past summer which is every bit as concerning as the rioting at the Capitol. I do not know how to treat rioting, or for that matter, rioters with any single enforcement/punishment formula. I do know that I would not lose any sleep if a rioters were shot and killed by law enforcement for burning buildings that may have occupants.

The left, BLM and Antifa have been rioting episodically since 2014 not just the nationwide riots this Summer. They rioted during the Trump campaign, they rioted in DC at the Trump inauguration 4 years ago. There are still leftist riots going on here and there. It's all been downplayed and pushed down the memory hole.

Brock Turner, Ryan Lochte at Rio, now this guy - this is a bad look for elite swimmers in this country, and reflects very poorly on the swimming community, IMHO.

Why? Was he acting with the endorsement of the swimming community?
