And it should be pointed out that what Wang is pushing for NYC is not UBI, it's welfare
UBI is supposed to be a replacement for section 8, a replacement for housing projects, a replacement for food stamps. The idea is you give those people the cash and they decide what to do with it. If at the end of the day they end up in a ditch that's 100% on them and society isn't on the hook to prop them up
Yang is saying give $2000 a year to the poorest, no strings attached
This is the very definition of pure, direct welfare
I am in favor for an universal life expense. An average amount to be used only for rent, food and basic utilities. Each state will have to formulate an average ULE. All landlords, supermarket/grocery stores, and utilities companies will need to be set-up with the ULE fund so the funds are distributed directly to them. (A person will receive a debit card for the supermarket/grocery store aspect.)
Also, in order to promote law abiding citizens, i would create some criteria to be eligible.
You need to be 18 years old to receive it and a legal USA citizen.
You need to have either a High School degree or GED.
Anyone that has a criminal record will be exempt from receiving it.
If you file bankruptcy more than 1x you will be exempt from receiving it.
Anyone that is claimed as a dependent is exempt from receiving it.

This will eliminate 99% of people who actually need $2000 a year for new sneakers.
If Yang gets elected it's going to be a mad rush to get into the liquor store business
