An Arizona lawmaker (Republican, how did you guess?) just put forth that suggestion. If the voters get it wrong, the legislature should step in and guide them back on the proper path.
LOL! Yep. So much for small, non-interventionist government!

Isn't that exactly what DJT wanted to happen???
He thought the states should appoint him and throw out the will of the majority of people who voted...

I don't see the GOP as a white nationalist party. What I see far more of is indifference.
I agree with this.
As a "liberal," I actually get really tired of the tired, old liberal claim that Republicans are white nationalist/white supremacists, etc. It's a stupid argument. Are there white Republicans who hold racist views? Of course. And there also are minorities who are Democrats who also hold racist views. What of that?
The primary shortcoming of the GOP, imo, is its refusal to acknowledge the socioeconomic disparities in our country.
Since the POTUS is an official elected for the entire natiin, they should be elected DIRECTLY by the people. States should play no role in this process. The reason is that it’s ONE individual who serves the entire nation. It’s not like the senate where every state is represented. A President is ONE for all the people.
The current arrangement suffers from serious flaws:
1) The winner takes all (the state).
2) States sending electors to DC (an unnecessary step that complicates the process)
3) The American people, who voted for the president, cannot recall him. Only Congress can, but Congress never elected that president! In some states the people can recall a governor if their actions are unacceptable or out of the norm. The same should apply to presidency.

The People don't vote for the President. They were never intended to do so. The President in function is meant to be more like a city manager- appointed by the board (States) to fulfill the day to day executive functions of the federal government. It was never meant to become a national popularity contest or to supplant the elected representatives. Your Representatives and Senators are supposed to be driving the agenda, because those are the officials directly responsible to the People... and even they weren't meant to be full time employees. The Constitution demands they meet at least once per year, because there wasn't much to do at the federal level.
