I know common core isnt popular with some folks, but I have to say that for me? Im 50, and math has always been something im truly great at....and common core math resembles how I do math in my head pretty regularly.
Yes its different, that doesn't mean its bad. It allows people to do some complex math in their head that they otherwise just couldn't do. Now you could argue the value given that most of us have a calculator on us. Heck some of us have a personal assistant built into our glass frames. I can literally ask alexa math questions.
But being able to do it in my head has worked well for me.
I can't help but wonder if these people are just screwing around with us at some point. I just can't concieve how searching for the right answer is considered white supremist.
I mean aren't these people embarrassed or have any shame at the nonsense they are pushing here? I mean really.
The most offensive thing you can do when teaching people (whether in a classroom, training a new hire, tutoring etc.) is to change expectations based upon anything other than what's between their ears.

The cynical realist in me has seen a lot of attempts to cover up racial success disparities in the school systems with smoke and mirrors as it can be a political problem and creating heat for mayors, school boards, governors etc.
I hope that if they have some new ways of teaching better that is the case but some of the initiatives I've seen have been aimed at improving metrics and not really help the kids all that much.
For one example, forcing\encouraging the worst students to drop out or have then not in attendance for standardized testing.

my dad taught AP calculus as a highschool teacher. He also has a degree in physics.
He says that common core is all about the shortcuts he taught advanced math students.
His problem with it was he was teaching these methods to people who understood how numbers work.
teaching the shortcuts without teaching how math works is a mistake.... according to my dad...
The new generation must be trained to think whatever way the elites tell them to, and that can change from day to day.
When the goal is indoctrination, not education, traditional math just gets in the way with pesky concepts like logic and precision, theorems requiring proof etc. Math is dangerous. And we all know the most efficient way of eliminating threats to the elites is by labeling them "racist".
Those math file folders with the spines and the pages made of paper ("books" they were called I think) are going to become more valuable over the next few years.
