It's a small point.
So mass shooters randomly shoot up massage parlors that happen to be open during a pandemic, that they never visited?

Stop being dense. He frequented these establishments to get laid, and it was the only way he could ever get laid.

Again, this is straight from the cops who interviewed him:

God-fearing gunman Long targeted the locations - one in Acworth and two in Atlanta - because he'd visited them before and blamed them for his sex addiction, cops revealed on Wednesday morning.

Was this an Asian hate crime ? My news feeds are covered with memes and stories about #stopasianhate with Asian people saying this is nothing new and they've been discriminated against for years.

Lots of people ranting about how this is another act of white supremacy, racism, mysoginy by a white male. The idiot was 21.

I know for a fact that if he were black, Hispanic or Asian there wouldn't be all these rants. If the people who were killed were white there wouldn't be all these rants. I truly believe that many people feel vindicated when things like this happen. They want to say look see it's racism !

All crimes are hate crimes. They call this a hate crime against asians, but let's not forget there were two whites who died and a Hispanic that got shot at from what I read on this thread. Those victims shouldn't be forgotten either. That being said, it makes me sad and scared to know asians are being targeted, and it needs to stop.

It does seem like mass shootings happen here way more than they should. I mean wtf? And it does often seem to be young white males. What the heck happens in their lives where they do this? What do they think will end up happening ? He should have just killed himself.

He said they were temptation for him.

The police have said they may have been 'targets of opportunity'...I think that means while he may have frequented places LIKE the ones he chose to attack, they may not have been his go to places.

And I will say that the reports I've seen have updated to say one white man and one white woman were also killed -- so there were only 6 Asians killed.

My point in all of this is to be careful not to assume anything.
100% agree.

So then I open up CNN this morning and it's "White Supremacy and Hate Haunt Asian Americans" as the headline.

I just got done listening to some history podcasts around the yellow journalism of 100+ years ago and it's relation to us getting into war with Spain among other things. It was largely driven by cut-throat competition for profits.

The pressures of the internet age has caused our media to regress badly.

I have seen very well to do Asian people posting about the discrimination of Asians they've experienced their whole life. Most of the Asian people I know are very privileged. Obviously no one should be discriminated against for being Asian but plenty of Asians living in the US are very wealthy. I guess I don't need to hear about how tough all their lives have been now.

It's not "good salacious click bait" but if you go by the FBI definition of mass shooting it's not often white males. There were two mass shootings around that time, are you even aware of the other? (Indiana over stimulus $$$)

Otherwise I agree with your post and wish the guy had just offed himself but it would appear that he blamed others for his own problems. Hmmm, what sort of culture would do that? Oh yeah....go look at the current CNN headline rooted in pushing racial hate even if there isn't any.

Lots of people blame others for their own problems but they don't go shooting them. I didn't hear of the other shooting. Nuts.

Because when everybody saw the story they applied their preexisting bias to it. While many saw "Asians" I saw "prostitutes" being murdered just by reading the headline.
