blah blah blah

Nobody's against infrastructure spending. People are against the crazy federal bills that they try and sell to us as infrastructure spending because they're generally not. They know "infrastructure spending" is an easy sell so they throw a few bucks at it in a bill filled with every pet pork project ever conceived, and they'll get it, because people will go around saying things like, "Why are Republicans against infrastructure spending".

Most infrastructure is (or should be) a local responsibility, anyway. The feds dangle that infrastructure money carrot as a way to coerce states into doing their bidding, and it's effective. That means your city/county/state are doing what the feds want, not what you want.

They do the same thing with education, gun control or anything else they can slap "it's for the children" onto. They know people will fall for that even easier than the infrastructure bs, and they do.

Funny, that you bring 1% and Republicans when Democrats in charge are part of the 1% also but you split hairs within the 1%. Democrats 1%=good Republicans 1%=bad. The train is never late, it's just that I'm surprised many liberals still believe the B.S.

Spending taxpayers money to secure our borders and enforced our immigration laws is better than telling everybody from 3rd world countries to come here that we will pay for healthcare and education and if you have your babies here we will take care of them for life for their votes. Power for these people is everything.
And you just proved the point that there is no compromise possible as things stand. MORE THAN HALF THE COUNTRY DOESNT AGREE WITH YOU! Learn to accept that little fact and move on with life, come up with original ideas that do appeal to a majority.

BOTH SIDES use that stupid fillibuster rule as an excuse. DO AWAY WITH THE FILIBUSTER or put it back to its original intent of the minority (party without the votes) to make their views known as long as they want to stand and talk, but then the vote happens. This automatic filibuster where nobody pays a price, vote just automatically scrapped is silly.

Its obvious the two parties cant agree on anything, so let whoever has the slimmest majority govern and be done with it. Not letting anything get done is stupid. Those in the minority need to get out and attract more votes, not try to suppress voters so their minority can wield power, but attract more voters. You know, come up with actual POLICY voters can support, not just "stop the opposition" nonsense.

Of course there is pork, but one person's pork is another's necessity. When Eric Cantor - a GOP "conservative" - got a new wastewater treatment plant in Caroline County VA, did any member of the GOP object? McConnell's wife funneled federal money to KY. They loved her for it. The Lexington Herald Leader had a headline that Elaine Chao - McConnell's wife - greased the whole pig to get money to KY. Those GOP conservatives aren't turning away TVA money and subsidies from the feds.

The Republican Party is out of step with the majority of Americans.

Hence the reason for gaming the system with gerrymandering, voter suppression, attempts to overthrow the election, ...

Unable to raise enough money legitimately for the last election, Republicans even resorted to scamming their own donors.

The filibuster is just another way to game the system.

However, it appears that the infrastructure bill can be passed under budget reconciliation.

LOL, That is obvious fake news! The demand for fake news is very, very great.

Biden will create the economy for 340 million people. Do Democrats believe their own B.S.?
Like I just wrote, the demand for fake news if very, very high.

Why are any threads that start with "Why are Republicans/Democrats ....." allowed. They are invariably troll posts.

You wanna talk gerrymandering? Behold, I give you Maryland's Third Congressional District!

The GOP does not have a monopoly on ridiculous gerrymandering, and it is disingenuous for you to suggest otherwise.

Yep. This reminds me of Obama's "shovel ready" projects, the result of which were very few actual jobs, but lined the pockets of wealthy contractors. There's one thing Democrats are really good at: accurately estimating how stupid most people are and gleefully capitalizing on said stupidity.

For years now, Maryland officials have been complaining about how old and decrepit Baltimore's water pipes are, and how it'll cost a fortune to fix them. This was as much of a "shovel ready" job as I could have imagined, yet nothing got done. Will this current infrastructure bill result in shiny new pipes under Baltimore's streets? I won't hold my breath.
