Gay pride parades have become a total nightmare... shootings, violence, etc. As a gay man I refuse to attend them, or subscribe to the theory that because I’m gay I have to be anti police. Identity politics at its best.
A group of civilians, with no connection to the city government or the police, can BAN police officers from a section of public street for a certain period of time?
Did they announce that this section of street was now a CHAZ-like independent sovereign nation or something?
Meh, it's de Blasio's 2021 NYC. No surprises here.
Too bad the general population buys into the gay activists who do not represent the greater LGBT community.
Too many activists of all stripes who generate bad will. Democrats use them as useful idiots and media trumpets the political narratives. Makes one think the causes are a whole lot bigger than they really are.

I got into multiple fights in middle school and high school with homophobes who physically attacked me first. How many of those altercations do you believe got reported as hate crimes ?????
The answer is 0.
I fully get that you dont understand the scope of this, but some of this is theater on your part.
From my understanding they are not going to be allowed to have such a large presence without having NYPD present. They will not get their permits granted and other licensures granted by the City of New York.

From the outside looking in, it seems like pride week in nyc is a giant party. Is it known to be dangerous with shootings and violence? If so, they keep it quiet- families go in to participate. The parade is great fun as a spectator. Love the costumes.

Being retired Law Enforcement and from the East Coast, it used to be like Mardi Gras with little problems. Over the years, there have been more violence not so much from the people participating but from people who show up to protest the immorality of it (ridiculous) and actual criminals who take advantage of large scale gatherings.
