90-95% of students in MN public schools have all their vaccinations. Yes you can jump through several hoops to get an exemption.
If a child's parent or guardian, or the child (in the case of an emancipated minor), wishes to be exempt, based on their beliefs, from one or more immunization requirements, the parent or child may submit a statement to this effect, signed by the submitting person and notarized.
A mask cost $1. Why not make the unvaccinated kids buy a fresh mask at the door with orders that it not be removed except to eat or drink while seated?
We have been told for over a year now to mask up to protect ourselves and those around us and in some cases to wear 2 masks. Has that all been a lie?
Wear a mask kids and you will be alright. Consider the $80 as a fine for being a free thinker.
Depends on the mask. Granted the CDC may flip flop again on that.
Damn this is a tough one for me... I want to respect people's rights but when it's a private venue, and the fact I got the shot and think vaccine conspiracy theorists are lacking in the science... it's easy for me to support being an authoritarian when it's something I agree with. I have to be careful with that.
In any case mask use has gone down to almost nothing in a hurry here in South Dakota, so I'm happy things are returning to normal outside the workplace. Frankly I wish they let vaccinated people take off their masks at work if we showed our cards. I dislike one size fits all policy decisions.
Our school charged $60 for prom regardless. Since when has prom been free.
Personally, I think prom has gotten way out of hand anyway. Its almost like a wedding.
Wild guess - you don’t have kids of your own. Otherwise my takes wouldn’t be so difficult to comprehend.
Why would you assume that?
Does logic fly out the window if you have kids?
I would not teach my kids to be drama queens or hypochondriacs about something that has as much chance of affecting them as getting struck by lightning.
You're teaching your kids to be very poor at practical risk assessment.

I’d be more concerned about them being carriers and giving COVID others who are vulnerable. What’s your logical rebuttal to that?
The thread title is misphrased. The school is technically charging all students to go to the prom. A wealthy donor (a la George Soros) is simply paying for the vaccinated students on their behalf. While I hate schools for being leftist indoctrination centers, in this case, the school is being unfairly blamed. Although if the prom is done inside the school's gym, $80 is way too much! If they're so scared of Stupid-19, they could have the prom on the football field, and charge only $20 or $30.
Also, the school shouldn't forget: any ban will have unintended ramifications. Alcohol prohibition? People built pipelines into Canada, and Al Capone got rich. War on drugs? Dealers are making a fortune, and inner city neighborhoods turned to crap. Stupid-19 lockdowns? People were having superspreader parties, like Lake of the Ozarks, just to stick it to Biden; or they joined in on the looting, just to have something to do. A school bans unvaxed students from the prom? Those students organize their own morp ("prom" spelled backwards) with more alcohol and sex than the school can shake a stick at.
And 80$ for prom? That's a cakewalk compared to what my high school charged: $200 per couple, give or take. In my high school, a guy would end up paying around $500 to go. That's for his ticket, his date's ticket, hair stylist, tuxedo rental, limo rental, fancy pre-prom dinner, a corsage for his date, and a bunch of other expenses.
