I know, it sounds insane, but that is exactly what is being considered by legislators in North Carolina. It appears so many people are getting so much money from enhanced unemployment benefits that they see no reason to seek employment. So our legislators are considering payments of as much as $1500 for people who get off their butts and actually rejoin the work force.

Now, as I see it, there are other ways to accomplish this without throwing more money at these people. How about simply giving them a date when their benefits will expire? I mean, isn't that how unemployment used to function? I know my wife drew unemployment once about 4 years ago, and her small $200/week benefit expired after 3 months. So why does it seem people are now receiving these benefits with no expiration date? Especially when there are literally jobs everywhere! I keep hearing the media claims that the expanded unemployment benefits have nothing to do with people not going out and finding work. Well, I'd say this story completely debunks those false claims. People aren't getting jobs because they are perfectly happy drawing a government check that they didn't have to work for. And now, we are seriously contemplating giving them even more money just to get them to get a damn job. This stuff is maddening.

What I'd really like to know is why aren't there any bills being introduced out there to reward people like myself and the millions of others who worked throughout this entire crisis? Do we deserve nothing in return for supposedly putting our lives on the line every day, while we continued to serve the people of this country while many of them were granted extended vacations which included free money, no rent, no light bills, etc. I've worked 2 "necessary" frontline jobs throughout this pandemic. I run a restaurant and I work in construction. I've continued to pay all my bills and live just like normal the entire time. Perhaps people like myself should be getting a $1500 "thank you" check in the mail, instead of bribing people who've been sitting idle for a year to actually get up and do for themselves again. So many people out there love to say "why should they go back to work and make wages that pay less than the benefits they are already receiving"? Answer: Because this isn't "free money" they are receiving. The people still working and paying taxes are the ones helping to finance those checks they are receiving. It's time they stop living off our backs and start doing for themselves again.

What do you fine people think of this nonsense?

A better way would be to take away payments to compel people to go back to work.

Exactly! Honestly I don't understand how so many people seem to be fine with doing nothing. If I go more than a week without working I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Not kidding in the least.

Maybe those legislators shouldn't have robbed folks of their money in the first place.

Just food for thought.
