A black parents’ group from Queens plans to ramp up pressure on the Department of Education through the courts and political action.
The newly formed Students Improvement Association — which has ripped the low school performance in southeast Queens despite high DOE spending — pledged to dig in against the agency.

Despite spending $27,000 per student at PS 134 in Hollis, only 6 percent of fifth-graders passed their state math exams in 2019, SIA noted.
At a rally outside DOE headquarters in Manhattan on Friday, attorney Courtney Smith, who is representing the group, said SIA is preparing legal challenges to the DOE’s stewardship of District 29.
...
SIA argued that the DOE has repeatedly installed administrators with mediocre histories as District 29 superintendents.
That approach, the organization contends, suggests a tolerance for low achievement numbers in the largely black district.
I am loving this. I hope the get results and don't give in.
The DOE enriches useless administrators to keep black children uneducated.
You want to know where systemic racism resides... it's right there in liberalville.

A tolerance for low achievement!? I thought the Democrats were actively encouraging an acceptance or low scores because THEY believe that poor black children are simply to disadvantaged to learn even basic skills and expecting them to basic math and basic English skills is racist!
Parents have to step up to the plate and teach their kids as well. They have to help with homework and monitor their choices at home. It's so easy to blame teachers. Teachers can only do so much when they have 30 plus kids in a classroom. And many spend their time disciplining.
NY still sends a separate tax levy for education so it is much easier for residents to see how their money is spent. This is a good opportunity for the taxpayers in Queens to get together and not pay the school portion of their taxes until they get what they want for their children. There must be a law firm willing to take this on. Or better yet just starve the whole public education system out completely and home school or use the taxes not spent to send your kids to private school of which would explode in availability in time. The US constitution has no language about providing an education however most states constitutions do.
Spending lots of money won't do it. Suing administrators and political posturing won't help. There just isn't any known way to get a district full of 85-IQ students to pass math tests made for the general population.
Good luck to them since they help create the All Powerful teacher’s union.
Voting and elections do have consequences… People tend to be OK with the stupidest “sheet” until it affects the, personally THAN all of a sudden, it’s a crisis!!
We, the parents of NYC created this monster and if they have a problem with it, they and they alone need to slay this beast by DEMANDING a special election…. Which will be useless since they will vote for the same monsters again!! They can’t help themselves!!
