I wonder how Secret Service costs compare between the two administrations? Trump’s costs were estimated at $600 million during his four year term. Is there anything out there on how much Biden is spending on that?

It probably doesn't cost much for Biden* since he rarely leaves his basement. Add to it, when he's out and about it seems he has no secret service agents, as was seen when he was lost in that restaurant. His personal secret service costs will likely be negligible.

So Biden values the role of the presidency so much he invests more into the staffing of it.

See -- see how you spin it.

Trump had problems staffing. The White House was understaffed from day one under Trump for various reasons.

Is that a good thing?

Trump’s Leaner White House 2020 Payroll Saved Taxpayers $23.5 Million Since 2017

Quote:
Trump’s White House payroll has 413 employees – that's 55 fewer staffers than Barack Obama (FY2012) at the same point in their presidencies.
Comparing First Lady staff headcount: Melania Trump (11 staffers) versus Michelle Obama (24 staffers).

Today, the Trump administration released its annual report to Congress on the White House Office Personnel. The payroll data includes employee name, status, salary, and position title for all 413 White House employees as of June 30, 2020. Search the recent Trump administration (2017, 2018, and 2019) payroll data posted at OpenTheBooks.com.

Over the past 12 months, Trump further reduced headcount at the already lean White House by five employees. Last year, the president employed 418 staffers which was 36 fewer than Obama at the same point in their presidencies.

Trump’s White House payroll has been a leading indicator of his commitment to “do more, with less.”
In the first few weeks of his presidency, Trump issued an order mandating an executive agency hiring freeze. Trump asked his agency heads to “seek efficient use of existing personnel and funds to improve public services…”

Trump protection in first 100 day soars to $40 million, most expensive president in history

Not that I think this is a reason to vote for or against Trump. Just keeping it real.

Trump struggled to find staff to work with him and to keep that staff.

I always felt he was impaired by the staff he had.
Trump hired staff for specific projects and fired them once they were no longer necessary.
For example he used Bolton to intimidate North Korea and Iran, but once the job was done, he let Bolton go.
That was Trump's approach to business, and that is how all Presidents should operate - hire the best people for each project, and let them go if they are not applicable to the next project.
