I really don't get it, if you're someone that kills/rape/destroys, while obviously you would have to be all kinds of crazy to do so, I don't get this "Well, they didn't know or were aware of what they were doing at the time" crap. By Liberal logic people like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot etc. were all just "mentally ill" and didn't know what they were doing.
Antifa and BLM, support communism, and Communist regimes often sent those who did not share their beliefs and ideology to so called mental institutions to be re-educated, although most were never ever seen again.
Those with extreme political views or who run totalitarian regimes, often use definitions of mental illness to fit their own narrative, and to deal with any opposition to their power and views.
The liberals narrative in relation to mental illness, is just another example of the politicalisation of psychiatry, and in relation to using it as a tool for their own political narrative.
because liberals don't believe in personal responsibility. everything needs an excuse why whatever someone did or didn't do, it wasn't their fault. this lack of personal responsibility is the fundamental core of liberal beliefs, not just crime, but everything that needs an excuse. It's society's fault. It's the system's fault. It's big businesses' fault. But it's never the fault of the person who did it.

Life is a little more complicated than labelling someone good vs. bad. There are reasons for underlying behaviors of people. Sometimes it takes time to figure it out. And, sometimes the evidence/knowledge isn't there yet to understand why. Or, only partial understanding is available.

Conservatives see everything in black and white and there's always a binary, which is a huge issue with their worldview and is why it causes so many problems. Most people and situations don't fit neatly into their binary worldview.
They are also heavily dismissive of mental illness to begin with or if they even acknowledge it, it's something to mock and make fun of.

Don’t gun loving republicans use “mental illness” all the time as an excuse for not instituting more sweeping gun safely measures?
Because mental illness can lead to people committing heinous crimes. For somebody to do the things the people you mention or for somebody to be a serial killer or rapist requires them to be mentally ill, because no sane person could do such a thing. If we had better and more accessible mental healthcare in this country, we could maybe prevent people's mental illness from progressing to the point that it gets to the stage where they are a danger to themselves or to others. Republicans are against that though, instead blaming the problem on demonic influence and the lack of a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
Mental illness does not explain everything or even most. Lake of morals however does. Most criminals don’t care what the law is aka lack of morals. Even for those few criminals that are mentally ill, that does not excuse them from the consequences of their action. They should still be held fully accountable. Treating them for mental illness may be the right thing to do, but they still need to pay for their actions. However, the vast majority of crimes are committed by mentally sane people with a lack of moral compass.
