Why not? Canada is a highly attractive nation. And Canadians are certainly a helluva lot more likable than folks down here. That’s not even debatable.

Wait a minute! From the article....

"Republican politicians face pressure from their voters to tighten the southern border and control migration as a first objective. Democrats, meanwhile, prioritize granting a path to citizenship for past migrants".

The above is about illegal immigration not legal immigration and they aren't talented they are the poor, unskilled and uneducated. The path to citizenship that the Democrats want is for them not legal, talented immigrants! Just another leftist spin article. Who day they think they are fooling? I'd be more than happy if these illegal aliens migrated to Canada instead. Though I would feel sorry for the Canadians.

You don’t understand the Canadian immigration system. They make it far far easier for skilled immigrants to come.

Look up the “express entry” system.

Canadian law imposes stiff penalties on employers who hire those without the proper paperwork.

Not sure why the U.S. has only slap-on-the-wrist penalties, but since the wealthy benefit from illegal immigration, ...

Well the article did go into the Dem push regarding immigration from the southern border...as if uneducated, unskilled poor people were of the same caliber.
Republicans want changes to skilled immigration while Dems want change to unskilled immigration.

From the OP's link:

"At the hearing, Republicans suggested Democrats have their priorities backward."

Not just immigrants I have several friends whose families were originally from Canada. They both recently applied to regain their Canadian citizenship and now hold duel citizenship. They both have very successfull jobs in the U.S. but feel we may be going down the road where they will be taxed to death. They feel at least in Canada they may also be taxed to death but the system is already established and they will at least benefit from the system there. Here they feel the Government will just take it all.

DO you think it's a bunch of Black software engineers and other high-tech workers going to Canada?

as claimed in the article (Jerry Nadler), some of these ideas started in the US, but could never make it through Congress (surprise). And Zoe Lofgren is among the most simple-minded - she cites an article about "top growth in tech companies" where the % growth is higher in Canada, but the # employed is not. If Toronto is growing faster than Silicon Valley, and is 30% bigger than Silicon Valley, is that really surprising?

I would wager that if Dems gave up on low-wage, low-skill illegals coming into the US that they'd easily get a more streamlined and robust (higher #'s) high-wage, high-skill immigrant pool admitted, under similar terms to Canada.

Feel free to read the written testimony of a "tech leader":

Through this program, fast growing Canadian companies are permitted to hire highly-skilled
foreign talent, or people with skillsets most commonly found among H-1B applicants in the
United States, in as little as four weeks, pre-pandemic. Critical to the approval process,
Canadian companies must submit what is known as a Labour Market Benefits Plan, which
outlines the company’s commitment to create mandatory and complimentary benefits for the
local labor market. In short, it outlines how the company will support the local pipeline of
workers in exchange for the ability to hire highly-skilled foreign talent on a fast-tracked basis.
There are several key requirements that must be in the Labour Market Benefits Plan. As a
bedrock for the plan, the company must commit to creating jobs or to increasing skills and
training investments for Canadians, depending on the underlying Global Talent Stream category.
the "H1B visa" is intended to be "Hey, we can't find US talent capable of this job so we need to hire an immigrant."

Is there a similar requirement - like Canada - that those very companies then partner and "invest" to support and fill the "local pipeline" with US workers?

I keep hearing how nice Canadians are, but everyone from there that I had dealings with were rude.
