Bill Gates is reportedly the largest farmland owner in America

This all has a very nefarious odor to it.
This is just sickening. And it's nothing new. It's like we are in a race to see how fast we can destroy this country.

I remember when all the savings and loans went under. They called their notes and no one could pay. Back then American lawyers were buying all the farmland. Is that who is now selling to the Chinese?

How can lawmakers be concerned when it's the lawmakers approving the sales ..different agencies, same FedGov ?

I think they are only "concerned" because this news is getting out to the public.
China and other countries own a lot of the US.

What's the issue? China is just getting some collateral for all the trillions of dollars of our debt they are holding. I don't understand whey the United States even gives foreign aid. We should be taking some form of assets for the money we are giving. Mining rights. Land. Ports. etc.

Understood, and you are correct. That doesn't make it right though. Better brush up on your Mandarin.

so you look to government to fix it ?
Well my friend, the same government approved the sales.

The agency is called CFIUS out of the Department of the Treasury.
The members represent all other agencies.
And for something very "touchy" it goes to the President of the US.

I would like to understand why Congress has their panties in a knot over this ?

Here's the members of CFIUS:

https://home.treasury.gov/policy-iss...cfius-overview
The members of CFIUS include the heads of the following departments and offices:

Department of the Treasury (chair)
Department of Justice
Department of Homeland Security
Department of Commerce
Department of Defense
Department of State
Department of Energy
Office of the U.S. Trade Representative
Office of Science & Technology Policy

The following White House offices also observe and, as appropriate, participate in CFIUS’s activities:

Office of Management & Budget
Council of Economic Advisors
National Security Council
National Economic Council
Homeland Security Council

The Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Labor are non-voting, ex-officio members of CFIUS with roles as defined by statute and regulation.

This is getting serious.

Just read on the BBC that an entire Scotch whiskey distillery was bought and is being shipped to Mongolia.

All ya'll better start watching the labels. Stock up. I got tickled at the 100 cans of dog food, but am not laughing now. Hoarding may be coming my way. How do you figure 2 fingers a night x365 x the calculated life expectancy of a 82 yo old?

The article did not say which one, but said it was old. Better not be Oban or DH will be upset.
