NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant described the Bondi Junction incident as a "scarily fleeting" encounter.
"They are clearly facing each other but it is literally someone moving across from each other for a moment, close, but momentary," Dr Chant said.
Dr Chant suspects two other people were infected with COVID in the same fashion.
"We haven't been able to look at the exact same crossover point [in those two cases], but we know they were 20 metres [apart], signing in at different venues at the same time or in that area, so we suspect they did cross over," she said.

Forty years ago, popular author Steven King produced a short (very short, and oversimplified) description of how viruses mutate in his dystopian / apocalyptic novel The Stand; and I cannot help believing that some of that stuff is still coursing through the minds behind some of the loudest purveyors of "pop wisdom".
I agree. So I am looking for proof that it spreads within 15 seconds as the huge hype states. Where’s the proof. I don’t see any. How do they make that claim.
If anyone can point to how that was found to be true, I sure would like to see it.
Because you know the hype will get repeated on social media and soon "everyone just knows" that it spreads in 15 seconds.
Is there any evidence that the new varient is not defeated by the antibodies people who already had Covid have? I thought it was.
I doubt you will find any data on that because the authorities do not want to know that recovered immunity is as effective as vaccination - it would seriously hamper their agenda to get everyone vaccinated.
If the Covid was contagious and the new Delta version is even worse then I shudder to think what the next variant, the "echo", is going to bring. We will catch it simply be reading about it!
This covid stuff is never going to end. Is there any doubt we will be masking up and closing business's again this Fall?
The variants after Delta but before Lambda fizzled. Lambda is the next boogeyman on our roadmap.
Variants are identified by a number and becomes commonly known by the location, first detected, which is not necessarily the location where first created.
Variants are purposefully NOT identified by the location they are first detected. That would be racist. Hence the Greek letter they get. Scientists refer to them by a number that looks suspiciously like a software version number (b.117) .
